H.S. bowling: Field set for Northeast District tourney at Rebman

The remainder of the Division II sectional high school bowling tournaments for the Northeast District were conducted through Monday at several sites.

The qualifiers from each sectional advance to Rebman Recreation in Lorain on Feb. 23 (boys) and Feb. 24 (girls) for district play to determine qualifiers for the OHSAA State Bowling Championships, set for March 1 and 2 at HP Lanes in Columbus.

While we already have published reports on the Tri-County sectionals in Kent, here are the qualifiers from other Northeast Ohio sites:

AMF MEDINA Coventry topped the boys sectional at this site with 3,916, followed by Lorain Cleariew (3,737), Lutheran West (3,669) and Open Door Christian (3,617), which gained the final berth by 242 pins. Brooklyn sophomore Adam Cowper was the individual champion and top individual qualifier with 663. Other individual qualifiers were Wellington’s Landon Davison (598), Brookside’s Mason Clapp (560) and Fairview’s Cole Joseph (545). Sophomore Aidan Jenson led Coventry with 621, followed by freshman Wade Allen with 593. In the girls nine-team field, Firelands topped the teams with 3,157, followed by Open Door (3,114), Elyria Catholic (2,857) and Wellington (2,719), which earned the final spot by 258 pins. Open Door’s Gabriella Riba was the top individual with 595. Individual qualifiers included Black River’s Sarah Racut (490), Coventry’s Maddie Badida (411), Keystone’s Chelsea Hood (409) and Clearview’s Gracie Linger (409).

WICKLIFFE LANES: Champion led the 15-team boys division with 4,125, shooting three of the top four 1,000 games of the day. It was followed by Jefferson Area (3,845), Cuyahoga Heights (3,775), Benedictine (3,682) and Villa Angela-St. Joseph (3,596), with the top five advancing. VA-SJ gained the final spot by 91 pins. Cuyahoga Heights junior Jaymes Kleinsmith was the top individual with 721, and Champion sophomore Derrick Campbell had 712. The qualifying individuals wee Southington Chalker’s Sebastian Dunn (616), Notre Dame Cathedral Latin’s Dakota McPadden (588), Berkshire’s Noah Valentino (575), Holy Name’s Richard Native Jr. (569) and Wickliffe’s Nathan Brisar (559). Among the girls, Fairport Harbor Harding topped a 13-team field with 3,600, followed by Wickliffe (3,242), Lakeview (2,684) and Edgewood (2,648), finishing 32 pins ahed of Maplewood. Wickliffe’s Katrina Eich-Lukans (653) and Shelby Childress (612) went 1-2 among individual finishers. Individual qualifiers included Champion’s Alayna Wildman (455), Berkshire’s Madison Conrad (448), Nile McKinley’s Paige Skelton (447) and Heartland Christian’s Kaysie Schmied (440).

FREEWAY LANES-WARREN: LaBrae topped the 13-team boys ssctional with 3,886, followed by McDonald (3,537), Struthers (3,162) and Crestview (3,079), which finished just two pins ahead of Lordstown after shooting just 139 in its final Baker game. LaBrae’s Brogan Collins (708) and Nate Goldner (600) went 1-2 among individuals. Individual qualifiers included Lordstown’s Andrew Grant (558), Lowellville’s Kyle England (538), Girard’s Chaise Henderson (506) and Wellsville’s Tyler Landess (478).
