H.S. bowling: Cuyahoga Falls, Boardman win Baker Bash titles; SCHSBC matches fo Feb. 14

AKRON — Boardman’s girls and Cuyahoga Falls’ boys captured titles during Sunday’s Super Bowl Baker Bash high school bowling tournament at Spins Bowl Akron.

The format was 15 Baker System games followed by the cut to the top five teams in each division for a best-of-three stepladder finals.

In the boys division, the Black Tigers finished as the top seed with 2,955 total pinfall, (197 average) in the nine-teams field. They swept past No. 2-seeded Springfield 2-0 in the title match with gams of 181 and 235 to Springfield’s 176 and 169.

Cuyahoga Falls had finished 260 pins ahead of the Trojans (2,695) during qualifying.

Stow-Monroe Falls had gained the final cut spot with 2,465, finishing just 12 pins ahead of Akron Hoban despite shooting just 143 in its final Baker game.

The OHSAA sectional-district oil pattern was used for the event.

In the girls division, top-seeded Boardman finished with 2,536 (169 average), finishing 79 pins ahead of runner-up Fairport Harbor Harding (2,457).

In the finals, the Spartans had to go three games to stop No. 3 seed Tallmadge 2-1, winning the final game 162-160.

Springfield gained the final cut spot with 2,100, finishing 20 pins ahead of Cuyahoga Falls in the nine-team field.
