Tourney report: Results in for Summit County USBC tourneys

NORTON — The Summit County USBC has announced its final standings for its Open Championship and Senior tournaments.

Team Italia, consisting of Brandon Fleming, Brian Walker, Al Petrosino Jr. and Patrick Adolph, topped the team handicap division with 2,923, while F.O.E. Arie No. 2,122, consisting of Bruce Toburen, Kenneth Ainsworth, Christoper Day and Norm Loescher, topped the handicap division with 3,029.

Doubles winners were Brian Walker-Josh Wilson (scratch, 1,506) and Robert Defazio-Andrew Monroe (handicap, 1,621), while Scott Hensley (actual, 792) and Jay Fazek (818, handicap) led singles.

There were five divisions for senior singles, with Kenneth Ainsworth topping Class A with 826.

In women’s unofficial results as of Feb. 25, Perfect Fit Pro Shop holds the team lead in handicap (2,923) and scratch (2,576), with Mandi Testa and Kamryn Smith leading handicap (1,553) and scratch (1,386) doubles.

Smith also leads both actual (678) and handicap (776) singles.

CENTRAL OHIO USBC QUEENS

Jennifer Higgins captured the 2024 Central Ohio USBC Queens tournament Saturday at AMF Stardust Lanes in Grove City. Chrissy Hosler finished second in the event.

Higgins defeated Hosler 443-403 in the two-game match-play finals.

OHIO MATCHPLAY TOURNAMENTS

OMT will close its season with a pair of events.

The Grand Finale Event is set for noon, March 23 at Columbus Square Bowling Palace. Bowlers must have bowled in at least two OMT events to be eligible.

First place will pay $2,300, based on 48 entries. Entry fee is $125. Bowlers must be age 50 or older to be eligible for all OMT events.

In addition, OMT will be holding at over-50/under-50 doubles event at 10 a.m. March 24 at Sequoia Pro Bowl I Columbus. Entry fee is $200 per team.

One or both players must be age 50 or older. First place will pay $1,600, based on 36 entries.

Teams will bowl four qualifying games before the field wud be cut to the top one-in-four for match play.

HDP EVENTS

The next Hit Dem Pockets Sunday Shootout will be at 4 p.m. April 7 at North Woods Lanes in Macedonia.

HDP also has set several events for the coming months:

  • A Scratch Doubles event is set for 7 p.m. May 24 at Freeway Lanes in Parma. Entry fee is $120 with teams bowling three games.
  • HDP Masters is May 25 and 26 at RollHouse Parma. Entry fee is $125. Bowlers will roll five qualifying games Saturday morning then five more games in the afternoon until the field is cut to the top 16. Those bowlers will return Sunday morning (Saturday pinfall carries over) for five more games until the field is cut to the top eight for two-game match play. Following that round, the four winners will bowl in a stepladder format. First place will be worth $2,500.
  • HDP Scratch Mixed Shootout is at 7 p.m. June 28 at North Woods Lanes in Macedonia. Entry fee is $120, with teams bowling three games.
  • HDP Queens is June 29 and 30 at North Woods Lanes in Macedonia. Entry fee is $105, with first place being worth $2,500. Trisha Reid is the defending champion. Bowlers will bowl four games Saturday morning and four more Saturday afternoon before the field is cut to the top 16 for four more games Sunday, with pins from Saturday carrying over. After those four games, the field will be cut to the top eight for two-game match play by seed. Those winners will then bowl a stepladder finals.

OHIO MASTERS IN CANTON

The 2024 Bowler X Ohio Masters will be held Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 at Eastbury Bowling Center in Canton.

The event is open only to adult bowlers sanctioned in Ohio. No youth bowlers are permitted to enter. Entry fee is $100.

Bowlers will bowl five qualifying games beginning at 11 a.m. Aug. 31. The field then will be cut to the top 50 percent of the field, which will bowl five additional games at 5:30 p.m. with pins from the early block carrying over.

The field then will be cut again to the top 32 (based on 120 entries) for single-elimination, two-game match play by seed until a champion is declared.

The field is limited to 128 players. Ric McCormick is the defending champion.

OTHER EVENTS

COLLEGE BOWL TOURNAMENTS: The next College Bowl Tournaments event is a regular doubles, set for 10 a.m. April 13 at Park Centre Lanes. Entry fee is $130, with teams rolling four qualifying games before the field is cut to the top four for match play. SENIOR DOUBLES: A senior doubles tournament, sponsored by Poling Painting, is set for 11 a.m. March 22 at Park Centre Lanes. The events is open to players age 50 or older and it is a handicap event, with handicap being based on 70 percent of 220 per player. Entry fee is $70 per team. 50-50 DOUBLES: The field is full with a waiting list begun for the 50-Under 50 Doubles, set for 9 a.m. April 21 at Clutch Lanes and Sports Center in Cuyahoga Falls. Entry fee is $250 per team, with first place paying $4,000, based on 36 entries. Bowlers will fill five qualifying games before the field is cut to the top eight for match play. DOUBLES EVENT: Valie Lanes in Jewett will be holding a doubles handicapped tournament, with shifts running weekends from March 1 through May 25. Teams can be male, female or mixed. Entry fee is $50 per team. Each team will bowl four games, dropping their lowest score and can enter as often as they like.

HP LANES MEGA EVENT: The annual HP Lanes Mega Event is set for June 8-9 at HP Lanes in Columbus. Entry fee is $300. For details, contact Jody Boyd or go to

TRIWAY LANES: Triway Lanes will hold a King of the Hill tournament at 7 p.m. May 10. Entry fee is $40 for the scratch event to be bowled on a modified house oil pattern. Bowlers will roll four qualifying games. The top four to 16 (depending on field size) advance to single elimination match play until one remains.
