CANTON — Massillon’s Ashlee Gonzales topped the scratch division and Louisville’s Sara Edwards led in handicap in claiming the top spots respectively in all-events during the 91st annual Stark County USBC Women’s Championships at Park Centre Lanes.
Edwards topped the handicap division with 2,082 total pinfall, finishing 35 pins ahead of Gonzales. Gonzales topped scratch with 1,999, finishing 33 pins ahead of East Sparta’s Taylor Devaul.
The team of Julie James and Renae Burns finished first in handicap doubles with 1,382, while Canton’s Breanna Hall was first in handicap singles with 733.
Ten Back earlier topped the team division with 3,365, with the team of Kamryn Smith, Mary Eibel, Becky Killion, Gonzales and Mandi Testa.
The Stark County USBC Men’s Handicap Tournament continues with team events through Friday at Park Centre, with doubles and singles running May 5 through 10.

FURBAY IS THIS WEEK
The 22nd annual Furbay Electric Open is set fro 9 a.m. May 5 at AMF Hall of Fame Lanes. Entry fee for the event is $80, with bowlers rolling five qualifying games before the field is cut to the top 16 (72-player field) or 20 (if 80 or more) for rounds of two-game match play until either four or five remain for a traditional stepladder finals.
The Furbay oil pattern will be used.
First place is worth $1,000 (based on 72 entries), with the field being limited to 138 entries. The current entry list has about 100 bowlers as of Tuesday. For information, go to Facebook at:

UPCOMING EVENTS
COLLEGE BOWL TOURNAMENTS: The finale of the group’s season is set for 10 a.m. May 11 at Eastbury Bowling Center in Canton. Players must have bowled at least four of the group’s eight events to be eligible for the finale. Entry fee is $65, with added money being put into the prize fund. HIT DEM POCKETS: The next HDP doubles sweeper is set for 4:30 p.m. May 5 at Rollhouse Parma. This is a handicapped event, with handicap based on 80 percent of 220. Entry fee is $120. For information, go to HDP’s Facebook site at:

The group also has announced the dates for its’s Christmas in July tournament. It will be held July 6, 7, 13 and 14 at North Woods Lanes in Macedonia. This is a handicap event, with competition in seven divisions, including seniors, mixed and ladies. Two shits will be held per day. See the Facebook page for more information.
SPINS BOWL SWEEPER: The monthly Spins Bowl Akron sweeper became a singles Sunday with 17 players in the field. Ryan Roderick took honors, with the remainder of the top four (in order) being Tim Jones, Ryan Liederbach and Billy Allshouse.
HILES TOURNAMENTS: The fourth annual Pittsburgh Open is set for May 25-26 at Meadows Lanes inside Hollywood Casino in Washington, Pa. Entry fee is $75 for the handicapped event, with five squads set over two days and the finals set for May 26 at 7 p.m. Bowlers bowl four qualifying games with six bowlers from each squad making the finals. TRIWAY LANES: Triway Lanes will hold a King of the Hill tournament at 7 p.m. May 10. Entry fee is $40 for the scratch event to be bowled on a modified house oil pattern. Bowlers will roll four qualifying games. The top four to 16 (depending on field size) advance to single elimination match play until one remains. PBA: The PBA Wabash Lanes Member-Non-member Doubles Central Open regional event is set for May 3 through 5 at Wabash Lanes in New Philadelphia. Highlight of the weekend is the high school fantasy draft, which is serving as a fund-raiser for high school bowling teams, to be held at 5:30 p.m. May 3. The tournament will include two eight-game squads at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday before the cut is made to the top 12 for rounds of Baker System match play, set for 9 a.m. Sunday. OHIO MASTERS: The 2024 Bowler X Ohio Masters will be held Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 at Eastbury Bowling Center in Canton. The event is open only to adult bowlers sanctioned in Ohio. No youth bowlers are permitted to enter. Entry fee is $100. Bowlers will bowl five qualifying games beginning at 11 a.m. Aug. 31. The field then will be cut to the top 50 percent of the field, which will bowl five additional games at 5:30 p.m. with pins from the early block carrying over. The field then will be cut again to the top 32 (based on 120 entries) for single-elimination, two-game match play by seed until a champion is declared. The field is limited to 128 players.
