Tourney report: Ten Back tops Stark USBC Women’s team event

NORTH CANTON — A pair of teams representing Ten Back Pro Shop topped the field during the team portion of the 91st annual Stark County USBC Women’s Handicap Tournament this weekend at Park Centre Lanes.

Team Ten Back, consisting of Kamryn Smith, Mary Eibel, Becky Killion, Ashlee Gonzales and Mandi Testa captured the title in final, but unofficial, results with 3,365 total pinfall, 26 pins ahead of Ten Back Babes (3,339). Both teams are out of Massillon.

Taking third was Stay in Your Lanes form Canton with 3,281. There were 20 teams in the field with Re/Max Trees Realty gaining the final cash spot in fourth with 3,259 out of Uniontown.

Chelsea Dorosky turned in the top individual scratch series with 727, followed by Gonzales with 716.

Singles and doubles in the women’s tournament are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday.

Kaitlyn Greenaway and Zachary Abbott defended their titles during the Youngstown Youth Masters.

YOUNGSTOWN JUNIOR MASTERS

STRUTHERS — Zachary Abbott and Kaitlyn Greenaway repeated as champions during the 16th annual Youngstown Youth Masters on Saturday and Sunday at Boardman Lanes and Holiday Bowl.

Players bowled five qualifying games Saturday at Boardman and five more Sunday at Holiday before the field were cut to the top for stepladder finals. Both days were bowled on sport shot 40-to-45-oot oil patterns.

Abbott, a junior at Lake High School and the No. 3 seed, topped North Canton Hoover senior Chase Wensel, the No. 1 seed, 213-202 to claim the boys title.

Abbott stopped Preston Smith 236-178 in the semifinals and Matt Logan (278-193) in his opening match. Logan topped Nichoas Mattesich 194-152 in the opening stepladder match.

The boys division drew 24 entries, with Wensel topping qualifying with 2,448 total pinfall, an average of 244.8 and 252 pins ahead of second-seeded Smith.

In the girls division, Greenaway was the No. 1 seed with 2,101, an average of 210 over 10 games and 181 pins ahead of No. 2 seed Addison Rudibaugh of East Liverpool.

Greenaway, a Boardman junior and the defending OHSAA Division I state individual champion, stopped Rudibaugh 194-177 in the title match.

Rudibaugh advanced with a 206-180 win over Greenaway’s Boardman teammate, Marissa Funk. Funk topped No. 4 seed Rylee Dunn of Jackson 210-158 in the quarterfinals. Dunn won the opening stepladder match 210-176 over Katie Zook in the girls nine-player field.

Scholarships ranging from $750 for the winner to $110 to fifth place were given in the boys division while Greenaway and Rudibaugh won $750 and $360, respectively.

SUMMIT JUNIOR-ADULT

AKRON  — The Summit County USBC’s Spring Junior-Adult Scholarship tournament drew 34 teams to Spins Bowl Akron.

There was competition in three divisions: A, for 181 or over average actual; B, for 141-180 handicap; and C, for below 141 handicap.
