Bowling notebook: Area H.S. teams have coaching vacancies

Two area high school bowling programs are looking to fill their coaching staffs during the offseason.

At Perry, boys coach Don Sprout resigned after one season for personal reasons.

The Panthers have posted the position, listing requirements as significant bowling knowledge, previous coaching experience and ability to attain a Pupil Activity Certificate.

At Lake, Patrick King has submitted his resignation after 12 years as head coach and 13 years with the program.

“I consider myself fortunate and blessed to have been able to interact, mentor, and also learn from so many great and talented student athletes who bowled for Lake,” King said in an e-mail.

King cited increased time and travel commitments for his job as reasons for his decision.

The position has yet to be posted to the public.

STATE BOWLER AWARDS

The Ohio High School Bowling Coaches Association, in association with Ebonite, has announced its 2023-24 Bowlers of the Year in Division I and II.

Each of the four recipients receives a plaque and college scholarship administered thought eh USBC SMART program. Nominations are received through current head coach members of the OHSBCA.

The honorees include:

Division I: Boardman’s Kaitlyn Greenaway and Avon Lake’s Jack Gomez.

Division II: East Knox’s Olivia Nastasi and Urbana’s Jazmyn Scott. No applicants were received in boys Division II.

HUBBARD GIRLS HONORED

HUBBARD — Members of the 2010-13 Hubbard High School girls bowling team were recently inducted into the Hubbard Athletic Hall of Fame.

In its four years, the team finished as state runner-up three times and third once, compiling a 60-2 record while winning three conference championships. They claimed two sectional and two district titles.

NEOTL SETS DRAFT

NORTH CANTON — The Northeast Ohio Travel League will hold its annual draft of players at 7 p.m. May 18 at Park Centre Lanes.

A player combine will precede the draft at 6 p.m. for new players to demonstrate their skills for captains.

The is a draft application fee of $10, with food being provided.

The league again will bowl the second shift on Thursdays during the season with a $25 weekly fee.
