Youth bowling: Greenaway, Perrine top state doubles

COLUMBUS — A pair of juniors — Boardman Division I state individual champion Kaitlyn Greenaway and Green’s Madison Perrine — topped a 31 team field to win the ninth through 12th-grade division of the 14th annual Ohio State Doubles Championships recently at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.

The event, operated by the Ohio High School Bowling Coaches Association, 135 teams in boys girls, mixed and seventh-eighth grade divisions.

Teams bowled eight games in Baker System style, with total pins determining the champions in the scratch event.

Greenaway and Perrine finished with 1,577 total pinfall, finishing 16 pins ahead of Danica Roseberry and Kylie Fisher. Teams were permitted to bowl with more than one partner.

Isaiah Durflinger and Jacob Terpenning topped the boys division with 1,958, finishing 62 pins ahead of Max Oaken and Drew Damron (1,896).

In the mixed division, Jillian Justinger and Eddie Krofcheck finished first with 1,713, with Baylie Massingill and Andrew Parker taking second (1,702) as the winners shot 255 the final game to take the title.

Connor Copeland and Greyson Garland won the seventh-eighth grade division with 1,504.

JTBA: YODER TAKES COLUMBUS TITLE

COLUMBUS — Triway High School senior Emma Yoder, bowling in perhaps her final JTBA event, topped Boardman’s Marissa Funk to capture the Junior Tournament Bowlers Association Columbus Open recently at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.

Yoder, the No. 1 sed in the 18U division, finished with a two-game total of 340 to Funk’s 305 to claim top honors.

In the boys 18U division, Nathan Woodbridge, the No. 14 seed, topped No. 4 seed Aidan Furukawa 508-424 to take the title. Lake junior Zachary Abbott was the qualifying leader with 1,158 for five games.

Other champions included:

  • No. 7 seed Max Oaken of Ashland topped Grant Taylor 437-395 in 15U boys;
  • No. 3 seed Alyssa Bechtol topped No. 1 seed Gracie Dunne 368-364 in 15U girls.
  • No. 3 seed Rylan Mills defeated No. 4 seed Tyler Baker 363-360 in 12U combined.

STARK USBC JUNIOR-ADULT

CANTON — The Stark County USBC will be holding a junior-adult handicap tournament June 2 at AMF Hall of Fame Lanes.

Competition will be in three divisions (18U, 15U, 12U), with an entry fee of $50 per team. Shift times are at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
