John Marsala captured his sixth regional title by topping the field during the PBA50 Gary Schluchter Memorial Central/Midwest Classic on Sunday at Al-Mar Lanes in Bowling Green, Ohio.
Marsala, a 61-year-old St. Louis left-hander stopped Yorkville, Ill., right-hander Steve Jaros 256-199 in the title match to claim the title.
Marsala was the No. 1 qualifier in the 93-player field, averaging 244.8, with Mika Koivunemi sitting second, averaging 235.8.
Jaros, the No. 2 seed for the finals, stopped No. 4 seed Brad Angelo 246-221 in his opening match before topping Dennis Rakauskas 231-226 to set up his title match against Marsala.
Jaros earned the final stepladder spot by just three pins over Tom Hess, 3,996-3,993.
The cut to the final 31 for the cashers’ round was at 1,709 after eight games, with Russ Hunt and Michael Clark Jr. tying for the final spot at 1,709.
The field was then cut again to the top 16 after four more games, following by the second cut to the final eight after three more games.

BUFFALO WILD WINGS CENTRAL OPEN
Jean Perez topped the field during the PBA Buffalo Wild Wings Central Open recently at Park Lanes in Heath.
Perez,, and Indianapolis left-hander and the No. 2 qualifier in the field after averaging 226.38 over eight games, defeated Brandon Flora of Mt. Washington, Ky., in the best-of-three title match 2-1 to claim the win.
Perez won Game 3 269-238. The champion swept past J.R. Raymond 2-0 in the semifinals while Flora went three games to defeat top qualifier Patrick Dombrowski 2-1, winning the final game 225-202.
