MACEDONIA — The first weekend is complete in Hit Dem Pockets’ annual Christmas in July tournament at North Woods Lanes
After the opening weekend, lows to cash are the following by division:
- Handicap doubles: 1,378;
- Scratch doubles: 1,393;
- Mixed doubles: 1,358;
- Handicap singles: 694;
- Scratch singles: 696;
- Ladies singles: 670; and
- Senior singles: 661
All scores are subject to change upon average verifications at the end of the tournament. Totals also can change following the July 13 and 14 shifts.
The event continues this weekend, with shifts at 10 a.m. and 1 and 4 p.m. each day, with bowlers rolling three games. Entrants can enter multiple divisions by paying the additional $45 per event.
Handicap is basted on 80 percent of 220, with three doubles divisions carrying a top prize of $2,000 and four singles divisions at $1,000 guaranteed, with the remainder of the prize lists based on 80 entries.

IRON SHARPENS IRON: Reginald Deante Hawthorne captured last week’s Iron Sharpens Iron summer sweeper at Roseland Lanes on the Mark Roth oil pattern. This week’s sweeper, set for 7 p.m. July 12 at Roseland Lanes, featured the 2024 Dick Weber oil pattern. Entry fee is $50 and bowlers roll four qualifying games. SPINS AKRON SWEEPER: The next Spins Bowl Akron doubles scratch sweeper is set for 4 p.m. July 21 at Spins Bowl Akron. Entry fee is $110 per team, with teams rolling four games before the field is cut to the top four for the stepladder finals. For information, contact Frank Dallas on Facebook.
SUMMER SPORT SHOT SERIES: The Mt. Lebanon Sports Shot Summer Series will be bowling on the all forward oil pattern on July 12. Entry fee is $40, with the evening beginning at 8 p.m. at Mount Lebanon (Pa.) Lanes. Junior bowler who wins will receive $1,000. The events average 108 bowlers weekly. MSBS AKRON CHALLENGE: The 2024 Midwest Scratch Bowling Series Akron Challenge is set for 11 a.m. July 28 at Station 300 in Akron. Entry fee is $90, with bowlers rolling five qualifying games before the field is cut to the top 24 for two-game elimination play. First place is worth $1,600 based on 96 entries. MONEY IN THE BANK: Bowlamania III: Money in the Bank is set for 11 a.m. July 20 at Wickliffe Lanes. Entry fee is $40, with squad set for 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. for the handicap event. This is an amateur singles event, with bowlers rolling three games. There are optional ladies side events available for a $15 additional fee. TRIPLE T TOURNAMENT: Triple T’s “The Big One” singles event is set for July 20 and 21 at Toledo Sports Center in Toledo. Entry fee is $225, with first place paying $12,000, based on 180 entries out of a maximum of 220. Squads are set for 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. July 20 with bowlers rolling seven games. LEGACY SCRATCH: The Put Up or Shut Up Head-to-Head Scratch Tournament is set for 10 a.m. July 21 at Legacy Lanes and Lounge in Coshocton. Entry fee is $70 for the scratch event. Bowlers bowl three games against an opponent, with total pinfall advancing. Each subsequent round and match is two games, with a new opponent for each round. … Also, Legacy is hosting the Summer Sport Shot Challenge at 3:30 p.m. (youth) and 5:30 p.m. (adults) July 14. Entry fee is $20, with bowlers rolling three games. Aaron Shanklin was last week’s champion with a 654 on the Kegel Open Play pattern. OHIO MASTERS: The 2024 Bowler X Ohio Masters will be held Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 at Eastbury Bowling Center in Canton. The event is open only to adult bowlers sanctioned in Ohio. No youth bowlers are permitted to enter. Entry fee is $100. Bowlers will bowl five qualifying games beginning at 11 a.m. Aug. 31. The field then will be cut to the top 50 percent of the field, which will bowl five additional games at 5:30 p.m. with pins from the early block carrying over. The field then will be cut again to the top 32 (based on 120 entries) for single-elimination, two-game match play by seed until a champion is declared. The field is limited to 128 players. AKRON OPEN: The 2024 Akron Open is set for Aug. 24 and 25 at Station 300 in Akron. Station 300 currently is installing new lane surfaces and a new scoring system that will be operational in time for this event. Entry fee is $130, with bowlers having 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. six-game squads available on a house oil pattern. Following six games, the field will be cut to the top one-in-five for Aug. 25 9 a.m. cashers’ round, with pins carrying over. The field then will be cut to the top 24, with pins carry over, to bowl five more games before the field is cut to the top five for the stepladder finals.
