CANTON — The 2024 Bowler X Ohio Masters will be held Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 at Eastbury Bowling Center.
The event is open only to adult bowlers sanctioned in Ohio. No youth bowlers are permitted to enter. Entry fee is $100, and walking will be accepted. The field was at around 80 as of Friday. This is a scratch event.
Bowlers will bowl five qualifying games beginning at 11 a.m. Aug. 31. The field then will be cut to the top 50 percent of the field, which will bowl five additional games at 5:30 p.m., with pins from the early block carrying over.
The field then will be cut again to the top 32 (based on 120 entries) for single-elimination, two-game match play by seed until a champion is declared.

TOURNEY ORGANIZATIONS SET SCHEDULES
As the fall bowling season begins, tournament organizations have announced their upcoming schedules. Here are a few:
OHIO MATCHPLAY TOURNAMENTS
Ohio Matchplay, a 50-and-older tournament organization, will hold its opening event at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sequoia Pro Bowl in Columbus. Entry fee is $110, with bowlers rolling five qualifying games. After that, a four-game match game format will be used for the opener with qualifying pins carrying over. The top 1-in-4 will make the cut, with three head-to-head matches being bowled and bonus pins awarded. Best score after nine games will be the champion. PBA UPDATES
Michael Haggitt, a 54-year-old Springfield left-hander, earned his seventh PBA50 regional title and eighth crown overall by capturing the PBA50 C Aam Toney Tire Pros Central-South Open last weekend at Galaxy Lanes in Charleston, W.Va.
Haggitt finished with a 6-0 match-play record and avergaged 233.36 over 14 games to claim the crown. He defeated Walter Ray Williams Jr. 266-246 in the title match to claim the crown after stopping Jon Rakoski 264-215 in the semifinals.

DOUBLES EVENT: The PBA50-PBA60 Park Centre Lanes Doubles Open is set for Sept. 20 through 22 at Park Centre Lanes in North Canton. One player must be agent 50 to 59 while the other ages 60 and older. The event will feature an eight-game qualifier on Sept. 21, with the top 12 teams advancing to Sept. 22 play based on 36 entries. Sunday will be round-robin match play, on the PBA Salvino 44 oil pattern. A pro-am is set for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 20 for a $25 entry fee. Bowlers will roll three nine-pin, no-tap games with three different pros. For information, contact Park Centre.

HIT DEM POCKETS: The Hit Dem Pockets Wonder Twins Ultimate Team Challenge has been forced to pivot from its original format, according to organizers. It will now become a doubles and singles tournament at Wickliffe Lanes. Entry fee will be $50 per bowler, which covers both doubles and singles. ELIMINATOR TOURNAMENT: Promotor Jody Boyd will be holding a $2,000 Eliminator Tournament at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 16 at HP Lanes in Columbus. Entry fee will be $100, with bowlers bowling five qualifying Ames before the field is cut to the top 24 based on 120 entries. The top eight will receive byes in the second round, with seeds 9 through 24 bowling one game with the top eight moving on after one game. The remaining 16 then will bowl one game to determine the top eight, and subsequent one-game cuts will be made until two remain to bowl for the title. First place will be worth $2,000. SPINS BOWL SWEEPER: Sunday’s Spins Bowl Akron Sweeper was reduced to a singles event, with Kyle Dunne taking first place,, followed by Brian Esterle and Ray Cook. The format was four games, with standings determined on total pinfall.
HILES TOURNAMENTS: The sixth annual Labor Day Open is set for Sept. 1-2 at Pines plaza Lanes in Pittsburgh. Entry fee is $70, with squads set for 10 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. Monday, with the finals at 2:30 p.m Bowlers will roll four qualifying games in the handicapped event.
