Bowling notebook: Stark County USBC honors 2023-24 top bowlers; high school updates, demo day

CANTON — The Stark County USBC recently presented its awards for high averages, high series and league awards for the 2023-24 season in both the men’s and women’s divisions.

A list of the honorees in each division are listed below.

The top sanctioned men’s average was 240 by Curtis Duffield at Park Centre Lanes in the Saturday Night Fever League and Branden Ball in the Las Vegas Trio Mixed at Eastbury Bowling Center, with Renae Burns posting the high women’s mark at 220 in the Custom Poly-First Commonwealth Ladies league also at Park Centre.

High male series belonged to Dennis Welty with 835, while the top women’ series was by Burns with 773.

STARK USBC OUTING: The Stark County USBC Golf Fund-raiser will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course in Alliance.

Cost is $320 per team for the four-person scramble format, with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

DEMO DAY: Rocket Center Lanes, home of the Conotton Valley High School bowling team, will be holding a Demo Day for new bowling equipment at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sept. 18 at the lanes. Proceeds will benefit the high school bowling program. Cost is $20, which will be applied to any purchase. HIGH SCHOOL CHANGES: Two home site changes have been announced by teams in the Stark County High School Bowling Conference this season. Green, which had been using Station 300, will return to Apollo 3 Lanes (formerly Turkeyfoot Lanes) in Green. GlenOak, which had used Park Centre, will be moving to Eastbury Bowling Center in Canton this season. An updated schedule is posted below.

H.S. ALUMNI TOURNAMENT: The Stark County High School Bowling Conference Alumni Tournament returns to Park Centre lanes at 9 a.m. Oct, 27. Entry fee is $180 per team for the Baker System event, which is open to five or six player teams all representing the same high school. Teams will bowl 12 Baker System games during the qualifier before the field is cut for the second round of best three-of-five match play, and match play continues from that point until two remain to bowl for the title. First place based on 20 teams is $765 in earnings. See the entry form below:
