PBA, Youth tourneys: Breaman-Haggitt top Virginia PBA doubles event; Midwest, JTBA hold events

ROCKY MOUNT, Va. — The team of Connor Breaman and Dan Knowlton topped the field to captured the PBA-PBA50 Lutz Do it Home Improvements Doubles recently at Rocky Mount Bowling Center.

Breaman, a Greer, S.C., right-hander, and Knowlton, a Dade City, Fla., right-hander, earned the win by topping No. 3 seed Ryan Liederbach and Michael Haggitt, a pair of Ohio left-handers, in the title match.

Breaman and Knowlton were the qualifying leaders, averaging 226.63 over eight games, with Bremen, a nonmember, turned in the high overall individual series with 1,853 (a 231.63 average). Haggitt was the high senior player, averaging 226.75 over eight games to finish third individually as the team was fourth.

The team of Tommy Jones and Jason Couch had the top match-play mark with a 10-2 record, followed by Tom Adcock and Jake Peters at 8-4. Haggitt and Liederbach earned stepladder win over Adcock-Peters and Jones-Couch to reach the title match.

Breaman and Knowlton finished 6-6 in match play.

OTHER PBA EVENTS

James Campbell and Randy Weiss earned the victory in the PBA50-60 Visit Kingsport Baker Doubles at Warpath Lanes in Kingsport, Tenn. Campbell and Weiss defeated Tom Adcock and Dan Knowlton 211-191 in the title match, with Michael Haggitt and Sammy Ventura finishing third. See complete results below:

COMING UP

PARK CENTRE DOUBLES: The PBA50-60 Doubles Park Centre Lanes Central Open is set for Sept. 20 through 22 at Park Centre Lanes in North Canton. The weekend kicks off with a pro-am, set for 6:30 p.m. Friday with a $25 entry fee. The teams then will bowl an eight-game qualifying round at 10 a.m. Saturday before the field is cut for a 12-game round-robin match-play round beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday. Players will bowl on the PBA Salvino 44 oil pattern. Admission is free for the event.

LEGACY CENTRAL OPEN: The PBA50 Legacy Lanes Central Open is set for Oct. 18 through 20 at Legacy Lanes in Coshocton. A practice session and pro-am is set for Oct. 18, with bowlers rolling an eight-game qualifier at 11 a.m. Oct. 19 before the field is cut to the top 16 based on 48 entries or more. Those finalists then will bowl match play beginning at 9 a.m. Oct. 20. For information, call Legacy Lanes.

YOUTH EVENTS

Champions were crowned in five divisions during the Midwest Scholarship Tournaments’ Eliminator on Aug. 31 at Beaver-Vu Bowl in Beavercreek.

Top placers included: U18 boys—Mansfield’s Alex Grant; U18-girls—Sofia DeLuccia of Rockford, Mich.; U15 boys—Teague Green of Cleveland; U15 girls—Jayna Larson of Three Rivers, Mich.; and U12 mixed—Kellen Smither of Beavercreek.

JTBA

The Junior Tournament Bowlers Association had 94 entries during its Dayton Youth Classic, held Sept. 1 at Beaver-Vu Bowl.

Division winners included: boys 18U—Quinn Dean; girls 18U—Heater Walker; boys 15U—Andy Oswald; girls 15U—Alyssa Bechtel; and 12U mixed—Aaron Cabiness.

The event also served as a Junior Gold qualifier.
