COLUMBUS — North Olmsted right-hander Michael Clark Jr. captured the opening Ohio Matchplay Tournaments event of the season at Sequoia Pro Bowl in a 48-player field.
Clark, the No. 1 qualifier with 1,151 total pinfall (a 230 average), went 2-3 in the four-game match-play round to finish with 2,161, with Joe Gronefeld taking second with 2,136. Twelve players advanced to match play.
Clark won $1,100 for the victory. Cuert Rasnic earned the final match-play spot for the event, open to players ages 50 and older, with 1,004, just one pin ahead of Mark Glandon.

The next OMT event is the Qubica Challenge set for 11 a.m. Sept. 15 at Palace Lanes in Columbus. Entry fee is $110, with bowlers rolling five qualifying games before the field is cut for match play. For information, go to:

COLLEGE BOWL TOURNAMENTS
College Bowl Tournaments, based in Stark County, has announced its 2024-25 tournament schedule, which includes nine monthly events, including four doubles events. Entry fee for each event is $65 per bowler, with a portion of the entry fee going to toward the prize fund for the year-end singles event.
The opening tournament will be a singles at Eastbury Bowling Center in Canton with a 10 a.m. start Sept. 21. Bowlers will roll four qualifying games before the field is cut to the top eight for single-game elimination match play.
First place will pay $500 based on 40 bowlers. The tournaments all are scratch events.

MIDWEST SENIOR MASTERS: Trent Marner captured the inaugural Midwest Senior Masters Event last weekend at 300 Bowl in Waterford Township, Mich. He defeated John Shreve Jr. 554-442. See the bracket finals results below:


HILES BOWLING TOURNAMENTS: Jonathan Bernotas captured the sixth annual Labor Day Open with 126 players in the field for the two-day event. The qualifying round was cut to 18 players for the finals, with 28 players cashing overall. Bernotas defeats Hayden Stippich in the finals. The next HBT event is the Baker Doubles set for Nov. 9 at Spins Bowl Pittsburgh. Entry fee is $200 per team and the field is limited to 60 teams. ELIMINATOR TOURNAMENT: Promotor Jody Boyd will be holding a $2,000 Eliminator Tournament at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 16 at HP Lanes in Columbus. Entry fee will be $100, with bowlers bowling five qualifying Ames before the field is cut to the top 24 based on 120 entries. The top eight will receive byes in the second round, with seeds 9 through 24 bowling one game with the top eight moving on after one game. The remaining 16 then will bowl one game to determine the top eight, and subsequent one-game cuts will be made until two remain to bowl for the title. First place will be worth $2,000.
