Tourney report: College Bowl Tournaments begins season this weekend

CANTON — College Bowl Tournaments begins its monthly tournament schedule at 10 a.m. Sept. 21 at Eastbury Bowling Center for a singles event.

This season’s schedule includes eight events plus the year-end singles tournament. Four of those events will be doubles, with events in October and February being over age 50-under age 50 events.

Entry fees are $65 per bowler, with bowlers rolling four qualifying games before the field is cut to the top eight for singles for single-game match-play rounds until the final two bowl for the title.

PBA IN STARK

The PBA50-PBA60 Doubles Park Centre Lanes Central Open is set for Sept. 21 and 22 at Park Centre Lanes in North Canton.

There are 18 teams currently in the field for event, which opens with a 10 a.m. eight-game qualifying round on the PBA Salvino 44 oil pattern Saturday. The field will then be cut to one-third for Sunday’s round-robin match play rounds to determine the champion.

Among players scheduled to participate include Tom Adcock, Michael Haggitt, Darryl Bower, Dean Billings, Tim Elsass, Eddie Graham, Don Hogue, Dave Johnson, John Kertis, John Marsala, Andrew Rettig, Troy Stus and Jeff Zaffino.

The weekend will begin with a 6:30 p.m. pro-am event Sept. 20. Entry fee is $25, with players bowling three nine-pin, no-tap games with the pros. Drawings and door prizes will also be held.

Admission all weekend is free.

ADCOCK TAKES TITLE

Adcock captured his sixth regional title Sunday during the PBA50 Easton Recreation Central Open at Easton Recreation Center in Jasper, Ind.

Adcock, who was the qualifying leader with 1,744 total pinfall (an average of 218), averaged 233.8 in compiling a 7-1 record during match play to roll to the title in the 27-player field with 2,825 total pins

Haggitt, who will be Adcock’s partner during the Park Centre doubles, finished second with 3,648, followed by Steve Jaros (3,570).

GREATER NASHVILLE: Dan Knowlton, a recent member of Senior Team USA, finished with 4,250 total pinfall and a 4-1 match-play mark to capture the PBA50 Greater Nashville Open last weekend at Smyrna Bowling Center in Smyrna, Tenn. Knowlton stopped Jon Rakoski 257-246 in the title match. Rakoski was the qualifying leader with 1,836 for eight games, a 229.50 average. Knowlton was seeded four for single-elimination match play. AMATEUR EVENTS

TRIPLE T TOURNAMENTS: Vincent Ludwig captured Triple T Tournaments’ 40 Framer No. 2 event on Sunday at Bowlero Toledo, finishing with 1,127 with 36 out of 40 strikes.

LEGACY LANES: A doubles sweeper is set for 1 p.m. Oct. 13 at Legacy Lanes in Coshocton with an $80 entry fee per team. This is a handicap event, with maximum handicap being 60 per team. Th event features a four-game qualifier with the top five teams then moving into a single-elimination stepladder finals. SPINS BOWL AKRON: Spins Bowl Akron will host a Scratch Doubles Sweeper at 6 p.m. Sept. 22. Entry fee is $120 per team with each team bowling four qualifying games on a house oil pattern. The field is then cut to the top four teams for the stepladder single-elimination finals. HILES BOWLING TOURNAMENTS: The next HBT event is the Baker Doubles set for Nov. 9 at Spins Bowl Pittsburgh. Entry fee is $200 per team and the field is limited to 60 teams. ELIMINATOR TOURNAMENT: Promotor Jody Boyd will be holding a $2,000 Eliminator Tournament at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 16 at HP Lanes in Columbus. Entry fee will be $100, with bowlers bowling five qualifying Ames before the field is cut to the top 24 based on 120 entries. The top eight will receive byes in the second round, with seeds 9 through 24 bowling one game with the top eight moving on after one game. The remaining 16 then will bowl one game to determine the top eight, and subsequent one-game cuts will be made until two remain to bowl for the title. First place will be worth $2,000. STARK USBC YOUTH: The Stark County USBC is holding a Youth Singles Fall tournament at 10 a.m. Sept. 29 at AMF Hall of Fame Lanes in Canton. Entry fee is $50 per player and it will be bowled on a house oil pattern. This is a handicap event, with bowlers rolling four games. Competition will be in three divisions for both boys and girls. HALLOWEEN PARTY: The Louisville High School bowling team is hosting a bowling Halloween party from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 26 at Eastbury Bowling Center in Canton.
