The Ohio State men and Muskingum women emerged with wins as the Ohio Bowling Conference held its first event recently at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace in Columbus.
In the men’s division, Ohio State finished with 5,752 total pinfall to top second-place Muskingum by 32 pins (5,720), with Robert Morris taking third (5,485) in the 17-team field.
Muskingum’s Evan Thro was the top individual with 906, finishing one pin ahead of Wright State’s Isaiah Shannon (905).
In the women’s division, Muskingum topped the 16-team field with 4,965, with St. Vincent taking second (4,767) and Wright State taking third (4,738).
Individual honors went to Muskingum’s Tayler Clark with 801 for the four-game qualifier, followed by a pair of Rio Grande bowlers — Lina Fernandez (783) and Caity Moody (769).

OTHER EVENTS
The first Tier I tournament of the 2024-2025 United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season saw two programs take home their first Tier I victories when the dust settled last weekend in Wisconsin.
At the Midwest Collegiate Championships in Wauwatosa, Wis. (men), and Milwaukee (women), the Marian-Indiana men and Coe women claimed the titles after winning the match-play bracket.
The tournament saw 53 men’s varsity teams and 42 women’s varsity teams shoe up in the first big tournament of the season. All teams bowled five individual games and 16 Baker games before the top eight advanced to the best-of-three match-play bracket.
On the men’s side, Marian-Indiana qualified as the No. 3 seed for the bracket and faced No. 6 Indiana Tech in first round, defeating the Warriors, 2-1. They followed that up with a sweep of No. 2 St. Ambrose to face No. 5 Webber International in the championship match.
Marian-Indiana won Game 1, 226-225, before losing Game 2, 172-259. The title-deciding game saw Marian-Indiana win, 185-158, for the program’s first Tier I victory.
Individually, Webber International’s Austin Grammar led all men, including a 300 in Game 1, with a five-game total of 1,180. St. Ambrose’s Zach Greim (1,158) placed second, while Marian-Indiana’s Kyle Toyias and Lindenwood’s Luke Batchelor tied for third with 1,150. Mount Mercy’s Zach Andresen rounded out the top five with 1,148.
On the women’s side of the field, Coe qualified as the No. 3 seed and faced No. 6 Wisconsin-Whitewater to start match play. Coe defeated Wisconsin-Whitewater, 2-1, advancing to face No. 2 Saint Xavier in the semifinals.
Saint Xavier was no match for the Kohawks, as Coe swept the Cougars to advance to the championship match and face off against No. 4 St. Ambrose. In another title match that went the distance, Coe prevailed for their first Tier I victory.
In the individual standings, Calumet’s Savanah Rodriguez led all women with a total of 1,123, while Viterbo’s Emily Newbauer was second with 1,085. Mount Mercy’s Brooke Salzman (1,084) and McKenzie Mattice (1,072) placed third and fifth, respectively, while St. Ambrose’s Marissa Bills placed fourth (1,073).
OTHER TOURNEYS
* In a conference doubleheader at the Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Conference (SWIBC) Event 1 and 2 in Fort Worth, Texas, the Newman men and Louisiana Tech women swept both events. Wooster High School graduate and sophomore Abbie Leiendecker threw a 767 to earn the first tournament MVP of her career to lead the Tech women.
* At the Mercyhurst Invitational in Erie, Pa., the Wright State women went 7-3 in team matches to win. Wright State finished the weekend with 9,529 total pinfall and a 186.8 average game score. Rylie Jeanneret led the Raiders individually, finishing sixth overall with a 200.60 average and a 1,003 pinfall total in five games. Triway High School graduate Addy Meshew finished 23rd and Alli Shattuck was 30th, each bowling in four games, with Meshew averaging a 219.75 with 879 total pins and Shattuck turning in a 190.25 average with 761 total pins.
* At the Ball of the Fall I and II in Tuscaloosa, Ala., the Spring Hill men won the first event, while the Mobile men took home the victory at the second event. The Spring Hill women swept both days.
* At the Bulldog Bash in Richmond, Ky., the Savannah College of Art and Design-Atlanta men and Midway women collected wins.
* At the Coyote Classic in Salina, Kan., the Baker men and women swept the event.
