COLUMBUS — Northwestern Ohio’s men and Wright State’s women captured titles as the Ohio Bowling Conference held its OBC No. 3 tournament at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace.
Northwestern Ohio finished with 6,007 total pinfall to take honors, finishing 107 pins ahead of second-place Ohio State (5,900), with Muskingum taking third in the 17-team field.
Individually, Northwestern Ohio’s Christopher Matthews topped the field with 962 for four games (240 average), followed by Muskingum’s Brody Wildenmann (916) and Rio Grande’s Dominic Catanese (911).
In the women’s division, Wright State finished with 5,391, with Northwestern Ohio taking second (5,213) and Rio Grande third (5,191) in the 16-team field.
Individually for the women, Rio’s Lina Fernandez topped the field with 831 for four games (207.75 average), followed by Wright State’s Natalie Hanson (790) and Rio’s Caity Moody (789).
The next OBC event is set for Feb. 8 at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace.

AREA COLLEGES
WALSH UPDATE: The Walsh University men finished fifth out of an 11-team field during the Bowling Green Falcon Classic in Sandusky. the Spring Arbor men and women narrowly won, with the men leading by 30 pins and the women by 12 pins. Complete results were not available. The Walsh women participated in the Daemen Storm Fall Classic at Lockport, N.Y. No results were available other than Lewis University capturing the title.
AKRON: The Akron men’s bowling team swept a pair of tournament Tier II titles in Canandaigua, N.Y. During the Brick City Classic, Akron finished with 4,824 total pinfall to claim the title by 24 pins of SUNY-Stony Brook (4,801) in the 11-team field. Stony Brook’s Kieran Carter was the high individual with 1,099 for five games (219 average), with Akron’s Ethan Hively, a United Local High School graduate, taking third with 1,079. During the Tiger Cup, Akron took the title with 5,245, with four regular games and five Baker System games in this format. Erie Community College (5,004) took second. Individually for the Zips, Akron’s Brendan Tahsler took first place overall with 968 for four games, a 242 average. He was followed by Rochester Institute of Technology’s Debian Stiles (937) and Caden Wood (899). There were 12 teams in the field. See results below:



OTHER COLLEGE ACTION
The SCAD Collegiate Shootout in Savannah, Ga., highlighted recent college action nationally
Savannah College Art of Design-Savannah hosted their home tournament at Bowlero Savannah, and each men’s and women’s team bowled five individual games and 12 Baker games. The top four teams in each division moved on to a best-of-five match-play bracket.
In the men’s division, SCAD-Savannah qualified second and swept SCAD-Atlanta to advance to the title match against Webber International. The teams were tied at one game each before the Bees claimed Games 3 and 4 to defend their home turf and win the event.
SCAD-Savannah’s Kai Evans led all men with a five-game total of 1,077, while Barton’s Braeden Barnes and South Florida’s Sidney Schroschk tied for second with 1,036. Webber teammates Michael Weyl and Austin Coffield rounded out the top five with 1,033 and 1,028, respectively.
On the women’s side, SCAD-Savannah led qualifying and swept Alabama-Tuscaloosa in the semifinals to face SCAD-Atlanta in the finals. SCAD-Savannah went down 2-1 before coming back to win the tournament.
SCAD-Savannah’s Addy Nelson led the women’s field with 912 while teammate Sofia Ramirez-Granick placed fifth with 858. Webber teammates Sofia Tosto (896), Sara Miric (886) and Liberty McKinney (869) took second through fourth, respectively.
In addition, the National Collegiate Team Match Games in Fairview Heights, Ill. – a Tier I event — was conducted.
Twenty-five men’s varsity teams and 19 women’s varsity teams bowled five individual games and 20 Baker games, with total pinfall determining the champion.
On the men’s side, Wichita State nearly led from wire-to-wire for their first Tier I victory of the season, winning by nearly 400 pins over second place. Carter Street led the Shockers with a total of 1,138 and placed third overall in the individual block. Marian-Indiana’s Dylan Mollo led all men with 1,210, averaging 242 for his five games. Northwestern Ohio’s Jyles Matthews was second with 1,149, Lindenwood’s Emmanuel McPherson finished fourth with 1,135 and Wisconsin-Whitewater’s James Stewart placed fifth with 1,124. Southern Nazarene’s Brandon Handog achieved perfection in Game 2.
The women’s side was closer, but in the end, the McKendree women won by 70 pins over Lindenwood (8,224-8,154). McKendree was led by Sarah Chilvers, who placed second with 1,029, and Lexus Petrich, who finished fourth with 976. Northwestern Ohio’s Olivia Fehlner led the women’s field with 1,107, while Milligan’s Emily Cheesman (979) and Lindenwood’s Hailey Bozych (969) were third and fifth, respectively.
* At the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Round Robin 1 in Waterloo, N.Y., the St. Vincent women went a perfect 7-0 to lead the event.
* At the Colonial Lanes Classic in Harahan, La., the Stephen F. Austin women defeated Vanderbilt in an extra game to win the tournament.
* At the Mid Iowa Bowling Conference Event 2 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the Wartburg men and Coe women had decisive victories.
* At the CSU Lady Eagles Invitational in Baltimore, the Felician women defeated Delaware State in the finals in five games to win.
* At the Oak Tree Open and Floria Financial Services Open in Diamond Bar, Calif., the Grand Canyon men took two straight victories.
* At the Garden State Classic in Howell, N.J., the Youngstown State women defeated Nebraska in five games to take the win.
* At the NAIABCA Invitational in Louisville, Ky., the Savannah College of Art and Design-Savannah men and women swept the event after winning in match play.
* At the Warrior Classic in Flint, Mich., the Indiana Wesleyan men and Rochester women left as tournament champions.
* At the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Event 1 in Milan, Ill., the Marian-Wisconsin and Carroll women left with a share of the lead after going 5-1 in round-robin match play. CCIW Event 2 (March 1-2, 2025) will determine the four teams heading to the CCIW Tournament (March 22-23, 2025).
