MACEDONIA — The Akron Hoban High School boys and girls junior varsity teams emerged with titles during the recent Nordonia JV Invitational at North Woods Lanes.
The format was three regular games followed by six Baker System games before the respective fields were cut for best-of-three Baker match play by seed.
In the boys division, Hoban, the No. 3 seed, stopped top-seeded Boardman 2-0 in the title match. The Spartans were the top qualifiers with 3,784 total pinfall in the 17-team field.
Individually, Boardman’s Ethan Hoffman turned in the top performance with 663, followed by Cleveland St. Ignatius’ Henry Cosby (631).
In the girls division, Hoban defeated No. 1 seed Nordonia 2-1 in the title match, winning Game 3 121-98.
Nordonia led the six-team field with 2,689.
Individually for the girls, Nordonia’s Zyair Bush topped the field with 461, followed by Hoban’s Bella Phillips with 447. The Knights had three of the top five individual finishers.
