H.S. roundup: Stark players of week, statistics; Mini City tourney returns

The Stark County High School Bowling Conference announced its players of the week for Week 9 of the 2024-25 high school bowling season.

The honorees were Triway’s Dana Armstrong, Kennedy Finley and Balin Finley and United Local’s Josh Hawkins.

Here is information on the honorees as provided by the conference:

BOYS

BALIN FINLEY

Finley, a freshman for the Titans, had 255 and 225 for a 480 series in a match, 100 pins over his average. Here is background on Finley:

Favorite band/singer? Abe Parker

Favorite school subject? History

Favorite teacher? Mr. Puster

In 10 years I want to be … working for myself, running a real estate firm and performing piano locally.

What coach had to say: “Balin being a freshman on an experienced team with juniors and seniors has really made his mark on the team. He’s willing to learn and it shows on the lanes. He is currently averaging 193, which is impressive for a new bowler.” — Karlie Way

JOSH HAWKINS

Hawkins, a junior for the Golden Eagles, had series of 409 and 513 last week, with three 200 games, including a high of 266. He was 122 pins over average for the week. Here is background on Hawkins:

GIRLS

DANA ARMSTRONG

Armstrong, a senior for the Titans, had 144 and 195 in a series against Lake Center Christian, 99 pins over her average. She also placed sixth individually in the Dover Invitational. Here is background on Armstrong:

What do you like best about bowling? Making new friends every season. Bowling is a lot of fun.

What are you listening to now? Country, rock, pop

KENNEDY FINLEY

A senior for the Titans, Finley shot a 448 series during a match against Lake Center Christian. She also played fifth individually during the Dover Invitational. Here is background on Finley:

What do you like best about bowling? I love how much fun it is and the memories you get to make with your teammates. I also like meeting new people.

What are you listening to now? Mainly country and rap, but it’s a mix of everything.

Favorite band/singer? AC/DC

Favorite school subject? Psychology

Favorite teacher? Miss Cicconetti

MINI CITY TOURNAMENT SET

The Stark County USBC will be holding its Mini City Youth Tournament on March 15 and 16 at Park Centre Lanes in North Canton.

Entry fee is $15 per event for the handicap tournament, with three events available, including singles, doubles and trios.
