
BROOK PARK — Josh Truman and Megan Ashley emerged as the big winners during the Cleveland Ohio USBC’s Bernie Vozar Masters and Jacqueline Kirk-Terrell Queens tournaments Saturday at AMF Brookgate Lanes.
A field of 64 men for the Masters and 32 women for the Queens participated. The men bowled an eight-game qualifiers before the top 16 advanced to double-elimination match play. The women bowled a six-game qualifying round before the field was cut to the top eight for double-elimination match play.
The Masters was bowled on the 2019 USBC Senior Masters 40-foot oil pattern. The Queens was on the 2011 U.S. Women’s Open 39-foot oil pattern.
TRUMAN TOPS FIELD
Truman, the No. 8 seed following qualifying, won five straight matches to capture to emerge as the No. 1 seed for the Masters finals, stopping Lutheran West High School junior Alex Roland 187-183 in the title match.
In the opening stepladder match, Matt Zitnik stopped Brendan Tahsler 192-189 before falling to Roland 170-167 in the semifinals.
Truman took home $2,000 for the title, with Roland taking $1,000 for second (paid into his USBC SMART fund account). Participants must have bowled a minimum of 21 games in a Cleveland Ohio USBC-sanctioned league within the past three seasons.
Dean Vargo was the No. 1 seed following qualifying with 1,913 total pinfall (139.15 average), with Casey Cohagan second with 1,788. Cohagan recorded the high game with 290.
Vargo fell in the second round to Truman 200-168.

TOP SEED TOPS WOMEN
Ashley, the No. 1 seed in the Queens after qualifying, ran off three straight wins to claim the title, defeating Kirstie Tedick 267-223 in the title match.
Ashley, who led qualifying with 1,417 total pinfall (236.1 average), stopped Lexi Cloud 257-243 in her final bracket match to earn the No. 1 seed for the stepladder. Tedick won her opening match 235-190 in the stepladder and the won a rolloff against Cloud to advance to the title match after a 205-205 tie..
Ashley earned $1,100 with the win and Tedick won $600 for second.

COLLEGE BOWL TOURNAMENTS: The College Bowl Tournaments series event scheduled for Saturday at AMF Hall of Fame Lanes in Canton was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. No one was there to open the center. The final regular season event — a standard doubles — has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. May 10 also at AMF Hall of Fame. Entry fee will be $130 per team, with teams bowling four qualifying games before the field is cut to the top four for single-game elimination match play. In addition, the season finale — open only to players who have participated in at least four series events — has been moved to 10 a.m. May 31 at Park Centre Lanes. This is a singles event with a $65 entry fee and officials are projecting $2,000 added to the prize fund for that event. HIT DEM POCKETS: Hit Dem Pockets will hold its Masters Scratch Tournament at 10 a.m. May 24 at North Woods Lanes in Macedonia. Entry fee is $140, with bowlers rolling eight qualifying games before the field is cut for bracket-style single-game eliminator match play. First place all be worth $2,500, based on 50 participants. Oil pattern will be the Kegel Titanium 44-foot pattern. The field is capped at 60 players. STARK COUNTY USBC: The Stark County USBC 92nd Women’s Handicap Tournament and 104th annual Open Tournament are both set at Eastbury Bowling Center in Canton. The women’s event is set for April 27 through May 2 (team) and May 4 through 9 (singles and doubles). The open event is April 27-May 2 (team) and May 4 through 9 (singles and doubles) Entry fee is $20 per event for both with optional all-events fees. See entry forms below:


FURBAY ELECTRIC OPEN: The 23rd Furbay Electric Open is set for 9 a.m. May 4 at AMF Hall of Fane Lanes with an $80 entry fee. Bowlers will bowl five qualifying games before the field is cut to either 16 or 20 depending on the number of entries for two-game match pay by seed, with the top four or five reaching the stepladder finals. PBA QUALIFIER: The PBA-PBA50 regional qualifier event drew 96 entries to Rebman Recreation, with 17 spots for the PBA regional in May and three more spots for the PBA50 regional in July being awarded. A second qualifying event is set for 10 a.m. April 27. For entry information, see below:

CASH IS KING: The fourth annual Cash is King Spring Bling Doubles is set for May 16 through 18 at Amron Lanes in Canfield. Entry fee is $50 per team, with divisions for men and mixed. This is a handicapped event, with bowlers rolling three games on a house oil pattern. See entry information below:

OHIO MATCHPLAY TOURNAMENTS: The 50-and-older series Grand Finale is set for April 26 at Sequoia Pro Bowl in Columbus with a $125 entry fee. Bowlers will roll five qualifying games before the field is cut to the top 12 for single-game match play. It will be bowled on the OMT 40-foot V2 oil pattern.
