COLUMBUS — Amherst Steele junior Grant Taylor doubled up on his titles Saturday during the 16th annual Ohio 7th-12th Grade State Doubles Championships at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bow.
The event, sponsored by Ohio High School Bowling, drew 98 doubles teams over boys, girls and mixed divisions.
Taylor teamed up with Ashland junior Max Oeken to top a 62-team field in boys doubles, finishing with 1,865 total pinfall. They combined to shoot 230 in their final game to edge Drew Parker and Payton White by just five pins (1,860).
Each team bowled eight two-person Baker System games, with total pinfalls determining the winners.
Taylor also teamed with Sandusky Perkins’ Olivia Lizzi to take the mixed division in the two-shift event, finishing with 1,721. Parker and Baylie Massingill took second with 1,694.
In the 22-team girls division, the team of Celina’s Brynly Huber and Bryan’s Zoey Gillett took honors with 1,746, with Lacey Holden and Taylor Stace finishing second (1,604).
The event was bowled on the 2025 OHSAA State Championships oil pattern.

JTBA COLUMBUS
COLUMBUS — A total of 124 bowlers took part in Sunday’s Junior Tournament Bowlers Association (JTBA) Columbus Youth Classic, which also was held at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.
Each bowler rolled five qualifying games before the field was cut for two-game individual match play by seed, with the cut determined by entries in each division.
Ashland’s Max Oaken and Sandusky’s Olivia Lizzi, who also gained doubles wins on Saturday at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl, earned 18U titles during Sunday’s event.
Oaken, the No. 2 boys seed, stopped No. 4 seed Isaiah Durflinger 467-463 in a title final. Lizzi, also a No. 4 seed, topped Kyndallyn Hood 378-371 in the title match.
Other winners included:
- Girls 15u — Avery Rottinghouse, the No. 2 seed, topped No. 4 seed Alyssa Bechtel 345-324.
- Boys 15U — Top-seeded Ex Ingles defeated Braylon Brown 435-433
- Mixed 12U — No. 1 seed Asa Wilson Perry defeated No. 2 seed Max Monroe 393-241.
The 45th JTBA Championship is set for 9 a.m. June 1 at Park Lanes in Heath. The event is open to all JTBA members in good standing. Bowlers will roll four qualifying games before the field is cut for match play. Advancers will bowl in a double-elimination on-game match bracket to determine championships.

MSM MIDDLE SCHOOL
SPRINGFIELD — A combined team from Gahanna Lincoln and Sherwood middle schools earned the win during the MSM Ohio Middle School Championships, held at Victory Lanes.
Twelve teams bowled three regular team and four Baker System games until the field was cut to the top four for a best-of-three Baker System rolloff by seed.
Gahanna Lincoln defeated West Holmes 2-1 and BBCDW (Beavercreek, Bethel, Calvary Christian, Defiance, Senior Warner) defeated West Clermont so 2-1 to reach the title match.
Gahanna Lincoln then won the title 2-1 over BBCDW.
Gahanna South’s Așa Wilson-Perry led the all-tournament team with 641, followed by Andy Oswald (Gahanna South) 623; Cameron Young (West Holmes) 597, Graham Johnston (West Clermont) 578 and Landen Jackson (Calvary Christian 573.
