COLUMBUS — After securing the No. 1 seed in both divisions, the Ashland High School boys bowling team earned the title while the Arrows girls finished third during the Holiday Baker Marathon on Saturday at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace.
The Arrows boys earned the No. 1 seed with 3,469 total pinfall during the 18 Baker system game qualifier, 258 pins ahead of second-place Hilliard Davidson.
The Arrows earned the title with a 2-1 win in the best-of-three Baker System title match against No. 3 seed Big Walnut, winning Game 3 246-211.
In the girls division, Ashland earned the No. 1 seed with 2,823 total pinfall, finishing 81 pin ahead of second-place Gahanna Lincoln.
But the Arrows, who swept No. 8 seed Northmont in their opening match, were swept by Fairborn during the semifinals. No. 3 seed Newark claimed the title with a 2-1 win over No. 4 Fairborn in the championship match, winning Game 3 148-147.
The event drew 35 boys teams and 25 girls teams, with each division being cut to the top eight following qualifying.

- Berea-Midpark’s boys and Amherst Steele’s girls captured titles during the Eagle Challenge on Sunday at Rollhouse North Olmsted. Berea-Midpark’s boys finished with 4,545 total pinfall, including three regular games and eight Baker System games, to top Twinsburg by 70 pins (4,475). North Olmsted’s Jason Beets was the high individual with 747, and Wickliffe’s Tony Thockmorton shot 739. Howland’s Steven Demchak had the high game with 279. In the girls division, Amherst Steele finished with 4,350 total pinfall, topping Magnificat by 599 pins (3,751). The Comets shot a pair of 900 series during the three regular games, the only team to eclipse that barrier. Wickliffe’s Katrina Erich-Lukans was the high girls individual with 668, and also posted the high game of 255. Steele’s Allison Taylor was second with 654. See complete results here:
