COLUMBUS — The 2025 Ohio Masters is set for Aug. 30 and 31 at HP Lanes with a new format and entry fee for the eighth annual event.
This event is open to all adult bowlers who are sanctioned and live within an Ohio State USBC association. It also is open to adult bowlers who bowled a minimum of nine games in an Ohio sanctioned association league during the 2024-2025 season, but the bowler doesn’t have to do both.
Bowlers will bowl an eight-game qualifying round Aug. 30 with a $125 entry fee beginning at noon. There is a maximum field of 144 players.
The field then will be cut to the top 32 based on 128 entries, with a minimum of 24 bowlers being taken to the Aug. 31 match-play rounds. During match play, players will be seeded into a two-game single-elimination, total-pinfall matches until there is a champion.
No youth bowlers are permitted in this event. Brendan Salo is the defending champion.

Jean Perez earned the title in a field of 174 bowlers during the sixth annual 2025 Spring Scratch Extravaganza at Gilmore Lanes in Fairfield on Sunday.
The tourney included four qualifying shifts, with Hayden Tarris finishing as the overall qualifying leader from the final four-game shift with 1,018 total pinfall. Other shift leaders were Graham Fach (B, 1,011), Ric McCormick (A, 993) and Jeff Fehr (C, 959).
Following the opening four games, the cut was made to the top 31 for the initial four-game cashers round Sunday, with Fach leading that grouping with 990. The field was then cut to the top 18 for the second cashers round before a cut to the final 10.
It took 882 to make the cut from the opening qualifying round to Day 2.

COLLEGE BOWL TOURNAMENTS: The final regular-season College Bowl Tournaments Series event will be a doubles at 10 a.m. May 10 at AMF Hall of Fame Lanes. Entry fee is $130, with teams bowling four qualifying games before the field is cut to the top four for single-elimination match play. This is the final opportunity for individuals to qualify for the series’ Season Finale, set for 10 a.m. May 31 at Park Centre Lanes. Bowlers must have bowled at least four series events to qualify for the finale. Bowlers who signed up for the postponed event in April should let Jeff DiMarzio know if they plan on bowling this event. HIT DEM POCKETS MASTERS: Hit Dem Pockets will hold its Masters Scratch Tournament at 10 a.m. May 24 at North Woods Lanes in Macedonia. Entry fee is $140, with bowlers rolling eight qualifying games before the field is cut for bracket-style single-game eliminator match play. First place will be worth $2,500, based on 50 participants. Oil pattern will be the Kegel Titanium 44-foot pattern. The field is capped at 60 players. HIT DEM POCKETS QUEENS: Hit Dem Pockets also has announced the date for its annual Queens Tournament, which is set for 10 a.m. June 21 at North Woods Lanes in Macedonia. Entry fee is $125, with bowlers rolling eight qualifying games before the field is cut for basket-style single-game elimination match play by seed. First place will pay $2,000 based off 50 entries. The oil pattern will be the 2023 PWBA Cleveland Regional pattern. HILES BOWLING TOURNAMENTS: The group is bringing back its Mount Lebanon Summer Sport Shot Series to Mt. Lebanon Lanes in Pittsburgh. Kendall Battles won Friday’s event on the PBA Bear 2013 oil pattern, followed by David Parr, James Meyer and Alberto Dunlap with 117 players in the field. PBA UPDATES
CENTRAL REGION: Non-member Gabe Castro compiled a 6-1 record to capture the PBA Easton Recreation Central Open in Jasper, Ind., on Aug. 26. Castro stopped Simon Mote 211-161 in the final single-elimination match to earn his first PBA title. The next Central Region event is the one-day PBA Lucky Strike-Fairlawn Central Open, set for 8 a.m. Saturday at AMF Riviera Lanes in Fairlawn.
