Tourney report: HDP’s Christmas in July set; plenty of events set for summer

MACEDONIA —Hit Dem Pockets will hold its annual Christmas in July event July 5-6 and 12-13 at North Woods Lanes.

Entry fee is $35 for singles and $70 for teams, with events for scratch, women and seniors in singles and doubles. This is a handicapped event.

HIT DEM POCKETS QUEENS

Hit Dem Pockets will hold its annual Queens Tournament at 10 a.m. June 21 at North Woods Lanes in Macedonia. This will be a one-day event.

Entry fee is $125, with bowlers rolling eight qualifying games before the field is cut for bracket-style single-game elimination match play by seed. First place will pay $2,000 based off 50 entries. 

The oil pattern will be the 2023 PWBA Cleveland Regional pattern. ROLLHOUSE PARMA: The Monday Night Sport Shot Sweeper series continues at 7:30 p.m. June 16 at Rollhouse Parma in Parma. Bowlers will roll four qualifying games before the field is cut to either the top four or five for the stepladder finals. Entry fee is $40, and players will be bowling on the 2025 Intercollegiate Team Championships 42-foot pattern this week. DOUBLE L TOURNAMENTS: The Battle of the States is set for July 19 at Spins Bowl Akron, with an entry fee of $240 per team for the four-person event. PBA and PWBA players who have titles in the past three years cannot participate. Teams must have at least one female. There also will be Mixed Doubles event at 6:30 p.m. July 18 at Spins Akron to kickoff the weekend with a $120 entry fee per team. See information for both below:

ROYAL RUMBLE: Axion Events is presenting the BowlaMania IV Royal Rumble, with squads at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. July 26 at Wickliffe Lanes in Wickliffe. Entry fee is $40 and this is a handicapped event. See information below:

HILES TOURNAMENTS: This week’s Friday Summer Sport Shot series tournament will be bowled on the 41-foot 2025 U.S. Open PTQ oil pattern at Mt. Lebanon Lanes in Pittsburgh. Entry fee is $45, with discounts of $5 for juniors, seniors an veterans. The format is four qualifying games in the scratch event before the field is cut to the top 32 for pod-style match play, with four bowlers eventually meeting for the title. Starting time is 8 p.m.  The events so far have attracted 721 entries for six events, a record for the series. AKRON OPEN: The sixth annual Akron Open will return to Station 300 in Akron on Aug. 23 and 24 with a $130 entry fee.  The Open will consist of a six-game qualifier, with shifts available at 9 a.m. or 4 p.m. before the overall field is cut on a 1-in-5 ratio for a Sunday’s cashers round at 9 a.m. That group will bowl five more games with pinfall carrying over. The field then will be cut again to the top 24 for five more games before the final cut to the top five for a traditional stepladder finals. Ashland’s two-handed lefty Cassidy Schaub is the two-time defending champion in the event. In addition, a four-game scratch doubles event will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 22. OHIO MASTERS: The 2025 Ohio Masters is set for Aug. 30 and 31 at HP Lanes in Columbus with a new format and entry fee for the eighth annual event. This will be the debut tournament for HP Lanes with its new lane surfaces. This event is open to all adult bowlers who are sanctioned and live within an Ohio State USBC association. It also is open to adult bowlers who bowled a minimum of nine games in an Ohio sanctioned association league during the 2024-2025 season, but the bowler doesn’t have to do both. Bowlers will bowl an eight-game qualifying round Aug. 30 with a $125 entry fee beginning at noon. There is a maximum field of 144 players. The field then will be cut to the top 32 based on 128 entries, with a minimum of 24 bowlers being taken to the Aug. 31 match-play rounds. During match play, players will be seeded into a two-game single-elimination, total-pinfall matches until there is a champion. No youth bowlers are permitted in this event. SURVIVAL TOURNAMENTS: The next Survival Tournaments series event is the Bakers Revenge at 10 a.m. July 19 at Seven Hills Lanes in Seven Hills. Teams will roll in a Baker format attempting to match or beat a target score. Entry fee is $90 per team. For information, see below:
