Plenty of bowling tournament action will be coming up over the next several weeks, beginning with a pair of large events in Summit County the next two weekends.
Here is our rundown of known events along with some results and updates:
DOUBLE L SHOOTOUTS
The Battle of the States is set for 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. July 19, with openings still available for the 3:30 p.m. shift. Entry fee is $240 per team for the event at Spins Bowl Akron. The four-person team must have at least one female.
No PBA or PWBA players who have captured titles in the past three years are eligible for this event.
In addition, a mixed doubles event will kick off the tournament weekend at 6:30 p.m. July 17, with a $120 entry fee.

HIT DEM POCKETS
The second weekend of the HDP’s Christmas in July event is set for Saturday and Sunday at North Woods Lanes in Macedonia. Shifts are set for 10:30 a.m., 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. Saturday for the handicapped event and noon and 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Entry fee is $35 for singles and $70 for teams, with competition in handicap and scratch events along with seniors (55-and-older) and ladies events.
Here are the leading scores after the first weekend (with number of cashers in parenthesis at this point):
Handicap doubles: 1,516 (9); scratch doubles: 1,482 (6); mixed doubles: 1,471 (6); handicap singles: 783 (11); scratch singles: 772 (tie) (8); ladies: 749 (3); and seniors; 702 (3). There will be a 1-in-6 payout ratio. Players can enter more than once.

OTHER EVENTS
MONDAY NIGHT SPORT SHOT SWEEPER: There will be no sweeper Monday at Rollhouse Parma in Parma, but it will resume July 21 with the 2025 Striking against Breast Cancer Mixed Doubles oil pattern being employed. Entry fee is $40, with bowlers rolling four scratch qualifying games before the field is cut to the top four or five for the stepladder finals. Last week’s sweeper drew 16 bowlers, with Patrick Dombrowski earning the win, followed by Tony Throckmorton, Dean Vargo and Hannah Klein on the 2023 Storm Lucky Larsen Masters oil pattern. The previous week on the 2024 USBC Open Championship doubles and singles pattern, Vargo took honors, followed by Ryan Liederbach, Casey Cohagan and Scott McIntire with 19 players in the field.
TIKI LANES: A field of 27 bowlers participated on the 2022 U.S. Women’s Open No. 1 oil pattern during the Tiki Torch Sport Shot event at Tiki Lanes in Lancaster. Josh Maslanich took honors, followed by Michael Williams II, Ethan Blair and Dan Higgins Jr. The Torch finales are set for Aug. 2 (handicap) and Aug. 3 (scratch) for bowlers who have participated in each series during the season. OHIO MATCHPLAY TOURNAMENTS: A Scratch Singles Senior Shootout is set for 1 p.m. Aug. 9 at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl in Columbus with a $125 entry fee. The event is open to bowlers age 50 and older. Bowlers will roll five qualifying games before the field is cut for two-game match-play rounds, with rounds two through fur being single game matches. See information below.

ROYAL RUMBLE: Axion Events is presenting the BowlaMania IV Royal Rumble, with squads at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. July 26 at Wickliffe Lanes in Wickliffe. HILES TOURNAMENTS: The next Summer Sports Shot Series event will be on the 2025 Team USA Trials No. 5 oil pattern at 8 p.m. Friday at Mt. Lebanon Lanes in Pittsburgh. Entry fee is $45, with discounts of $5 for juniors, seniors an veterans. The format is four qualifying games in the scratch event before the field is cut to the top 32 for pod-style match play, with four bowlers eventually meeting for the title. AKRON OPEN: The sixth annual Akron Open will return to Station 300 in Akron on Aug. 23 and 24 with a $130 entry fee. The Open will consist of a six-game qualifier, with shifts available at 9 a.m. or 4 p.m. before the overall field is cut on a 1-in-5 ratio for a Sunday’s cashers round at 9 a.m. That group will bowl five more games with pinfall carrying over. The field then will be cut again to the top 24 for five more games before the final cut to the top five for a traditional stepladder finals. Ashland’s two-handed lefty Cassidy Schaub is the two-time defending champion in the event. In addition, a four-game scratch doubles event will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 22. OHIO MASTERS: The 2025 Ohio Masters is set for Aug. 30 and 31 at HP Lanes in Columbus with a new format and entry fee for the eighth annual event. Tournament officials announced this week that the new lane surfaces will not be installed in time for this event. This event is open to all adult bowlers who are sanctioned and live within an Ohio State USBC association. It also is open to adult bowlers who bowled a minimum of nine games in an Ohio sanctioned association league during the 2024-2025 season, but the bowler doesn’t have to do both. Bowlers will bowl an eight-game qualifying round Aug. 30 with a $125 entry fee beginning at noon. There is a maximum field of 144 players. The field then will be cut to the top 32 based on 128 entries, with a minimum of 24 bowlers being taken to the Aug. 31 match-play rounds. During match play, players will be seeded into a two-game single-elimination, total-pinfall matches until there is a champion. No youth bowlers are permitted in this event. BURNS MEMORIAL: The Teresa J. Burns Junior-Senior Doubles Handicap Memorial event is set for 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Aug. 20 at Rlseland Lanes in Oakwood. Entry fee is $100 per team.

JUNIOR EVENTS
STARK COUNTY USBC: The Stark County USBC will hold its annual Youth Singles Fall Tournament at 9 a.m. Aug. 10 at Park Centre Lanes in North Canton. Entry fee is $50 per player and will be bowled on a house oil pattern. There will be three divisions for both boys and girls, with bowlers rolling four games in the handicap event. PBA
CENTRAL REGION: The PBA50 Ohio Lottery Baldo Campana-Dave D’Entremont Memorial Central Open is set for July 28 through 30 at Rebman Recreation in Lorain. Admission is free. Players will bowl an eight-game qualifying round at 1 p.m. July 29 before the field is cut for bracket match play, set for 9 a.m. July 30 until champion in determined.
