Junior tourney report: JTBA opens season; Ashland tops at Youth Open

COLUMBUS — Reynoldsburg High School’s Quinn Dean and Gahanna Lincoln’s Lacey Holden emerged with U18 titles as the Junior Tournament Bowlers Association (JTBA) held its 46th annual Kick-off Tournament on Sunday at Columbus Square Bowling Palace.

The opening event drew 103 entries over four divisions (18U, 16U, 14U) in boys and girls competition.

In the boys 18U, Dean, the No. 4 seed following the five-game qualifying round, stopped No. 14 Isaiah Durflinger 413-353 in the two-game title match to claim the title. 

In the girls 18U, top-seeded Holden defeated Green No. 7 seed Payton Taylor, who is converting to a two-handed delivery, 379-357 in the two-game title match. Holden stopped Perry’s Arielle Clapper while Taylor defeated Fairport Harbor Harding’s Mackenzie Pilny during the semifinals. Holden also stopped Jackson’s Rylee Dunn in her opening match.

Other division champions included:

  • Braedon McCorkle defeated Lucas Less 418-373 in the 16U boys;
  • Highland’s Gracie Dunn stopped Bella Phillips 418-405 in girls 16U;
  • Ex Ingles defeated Aaron Cabiness 441-360 in boys 14U; and
  • Maya East stopped Brooklyn Barnett 315-306 in girls 14U.

The next JTBA event is Akron Youth Open, set for 9 a.m. Aug. 24 at Spins Bowl Akron. Entry fee is $80 preregistered or $90 the day of the event. See the entry form below along with Columbus JTBA results.

YOUTH OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

APPLETON, Wis. — The Ashland Arrow took team honors in the 18U scratch division during the 2025 bowling.com Youth Open Championships at Bowler Super Bowl Family Entertainment Center.

The event was held in connection with the 2025 Junior Gold Championships.

Competing against a 112-team field, Ashland finished with 2,683 total pinfall to earn first place overall. Members of the team and their series included Max Oeken 725, Jackson Neubauer 660 (with a high game of 279), Luke Rhine (624) and Brantlyn Long (674).

The Arrows, the defending OHSAA Division I state champions who also captured the National High School Tournament championship in June for the second straight season, finished just two pins ahead of Two Many Hands from Iowa and six ahead of Rockford Bowlers Tour from Illinois.
