H.S. bowling: Carrollton girls, Barnesville boys take East District titles, advance to state

COSHOCTON — Carrollton’s girls will make their ninth straight state appearance after the Warriors topped a six-team field to advance during Thursday’s OHSAA Division II East District at Legacy Lanes.

The Warriors finished with 3,248 total pinfall after sitting second during the opening three team regular games, trailing East Liverpool by 48 pins. But Carrollton shot 974 during the six Baker System games (162.3 average) to take the top spot by just six pins over River View (3,242).

River View shot a district-high 1,002 in Bakers to top East Liverpool by 112 pins to earn the second state qualifying spot.

Sectional champion Barnesville topped the boys Division II district to earn a trip to Columbus with 3,766, finishing 106 pins ahead of second-place River View (3,660), which also advanced.

Carrollton senior Kaylee Russell, the 2024 state Division II individual champion, claimed the overall district title with a 500 series, finishing nine pins ahead of East Liverpool senior Lani Rudibaugh, who was the top individual state qualifier. Joining her will be Conotton Valley sophomore Madelyn Case, who shot 486 to finish fourth overall.

In addition to Russell, senior Emma Brown (437) and freshman Lilly Kruprzak (434) led the Warriors. Sophomore Morgan Rowe, who finished third individually overall, led River View with 489. She was joined by junior Kaylie Bryan (459) and freshman Kendall Duff (455).

ROCKET LEADS BOYS

Conotton Valley sophomore earned a state trip by topping the district field with a 613 series. He was followed by Buckeye Local sophomore Michael Kovalski (612), who also advanced.

Barnesville was led by junior Bo Detling (600) and senior Keegan Martin (579) who finished fourth and fifth overall. Sophomore Gavin Gress was higher River View with 569.

The OHSAA Division II state championships are set for 10:30 a.m. Feb. 27 (boys) and 28 (gils) at HP Lanes in Columbus.
