
CANTON — Poland’s Chris Walla, sitting 13th following qualifying, went on to win four matches to claim the title in the Strike Zone Lanes King of The Hill tournament Saturday at Strike Zone.
Walla, using a Hammer Full Effect and the Hammer Black Widow Dynasty 3.0, won matches with games of 212, 203, 232 and 210 in the finals to claim the $700 top prize in the 35-player field.
Bowlers rolled four qualifying games before the field was cut to the top 32 for single-game match-play bracketed rounds by seed. The top eight players and the top losing score out of the Round of 16 cashed.
Walla stopped Josh Bares 210-148 in the title match, with the tourney contested on a house oil pattern.
Canton’s Eddie Prowell was the qualifying leader with 996, averaging 249. He shot 298 in Game 4 to take the lead, finishing nine pins ahead of Michael Thewes (987) and 14 ahead of Nick Burd. Chris Steele had the day’s lone 300 in Game 3.

H.S. COACH-ATHLETE TOURNEY
GREEN — The Lake High School duo of head coach Jeff Mowls and junior Andrew Venus topped a 21-team field during the Stark County High School Bowling Conference’s Coach-Athlete tournament on Saturday at Apollo 3 Lanes.
The pair combined for 1,748 total pinfall to claim the win by 93 pins over the Carrollton duo of coach Tom Thompson and player oat Hutson (1,655) with the Carrollton duo of head coach Joe Phillis and Jace Eckinger finishing third (1,596).
In the girls division, the Lake team of coach Kassidy Koontz and Bella Feher finished first with 1,552, 17 pins ahead of Carrollton coach Wendy Russell and her daughter Kaylee Russell (1,535). Kaylee Russell turned in the high game of the day with 263.
Venus posted games of 235 and 244 as the doubles teams bowled two regular games each and then combined for four Baker System games to determine the final pinfalls.
The conference’s annual banquet is set for 3 p.m. April 12 at Raintree Golf and Banquet Center in Uniontown.
