Bowling notebook: Bell tops Minerva Master; state junior doubles held in Columbus

MINERVA — Chad Bell, the No. 1 seed following qualifying, stopped J.R. Harr 268-193 to capture the Minerva Master title Sunday at Minerva Bowl.

Bell led qualifying for the event, which featured 26 bowlers rolling four qualifying games before the field was cut to th top eight for match play, with 957, followed by Harr (932) and Ryan Sstuckey (914). The cut to the top eight came at 863, with Dana Keister grabbing the final spot.

STATE JUNIOR DOUBLES

COLUMBUS — Zachary Mayne and Jonathan Rasch earned top honors as the 17th annual Ohio 7th-12th Grade State Doubles was contested Saturday at HP Lanes. 

A total of 94 teams spread over four divisions competed in the event, bowled on the OHSAA State Championships oil pattern.

All teams bowled eight games in Baker System format, moving pairs after every two games.

Mayne and Rasch finished with 1,900 total pinfall, finishing 17 ahead of Calvin Schist and Atreyu Sturgill to claim the grades 9 through 12 boys title.

In the 9th through 12th mixed division, Quinn Dean and Lacey Holden topped the field with 1,714; and London Askins and Holden finished on top in the 9th through 12 girls division with 1,543, finishing just one pin ahead of Gracie Dunne and Ariana Fedyszyn.
