Junior bowling: Oakes, Jentes, Venus, Russell among Stark USBC Youth winners

CANTON — A pair of high school sophomores turned in the top scratch performances as the Stark County USBC held its Youth Challenge Singles tournament Saturday at Eastbury Bowling Center.

A total 0f 26 players competed over four age divisions during the event, contested on the OHSAA sectional-district oil pattern.

Akron Hoban sophomore Carson Oakes topped the 16U division with 903 after shooting a tourney-high 839 scratch for the four-game event. He was followed by Louisville sophomore Owen Emerick, who finished with 894 after going 834 scratch with the day’s high game of 242.

Wooster junior Mackenzie Jentes turned in the top girls scratch series with 730, including a division high 230 game. She won the girls 18U division by 57 pins over Akron’s Toni Caputo.

Lake junior Andrew Venus topped the boys 18U division with 835 total pinfall, topping Perry’s Eli Nave by 26 pins. Nave shot 807 scratch as just three boys averaged 200 or better in the handicapped event.

Wooster freshman Rylee McCullough topped the girls 16U division with 845, 52 pins ahead of Canton McKinley freshman Mikayla tucker (793).

Other girls division titles went to Massillon’s Adelaide Russell (14U, 956) and Lima’s Eliza Murdick (12U, 899).

Other boys division titles went to Rome’s Jayden Culver (14U, 687) and Massillon’s Luca Ohman (12U, 864).
