CANTON — Five new members will join an elite group as the Stark County United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Hall of Fame and Canton Amateur Sports Hall of Fame will hold their annual enshrinement ceremonies in August.
The five inductees for bowling, adding to the 246 men and 118 women already enshrined at CASHOF, in two categories, include:
- Performance: Jim Williams, Brian Buehler, Matthew J. McCourry and Don Sprout; and
- Meritorious Service: Cayce Burkholder.
This will mark the fourth class inducted into the Stark USBC Hall since the merging of the Greater Canton Bowling Association and the Canton Women’s Bowling Association. The GCBA had its first enshrinee class in 1971; the CWBA in 1974. Plaques for all enshrinees are housed in the CASHOF at 500 Market Ave. N.
The ceremony also will mark induction ceremonies for new members of the Stark County Fumbleball Hall of Fame. That new class will include Chris (Fess) Parker, Bob Thompson and Jon Melnichenko.
The enshrinement ceremonies are set for 6 p.m. Aug. 16 at the downtown Double Tree by Hilton. Tickets will be $40, with no tickets available at the door. Contact CASHOF for ticket details.

PBA: PROS BACK IN NE OHIO STARTING SUNDAY
The Professional Bowlers Association 50 Tour will have a pair of events in Northeast Ohio beginning July 11.
The week kicks off with the PBA50 Akron Classic, which will run July 11 through 14 at famed AMF Riviera Lanes in Fairlawn, home of the PBA Tournament of Champions.
Practice sessions are set for 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. July 11 before the field participates in two seven-game qualifying rounds at 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. July 12.
Bowlers then will return for seven more qualifying games at 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. July 13 for a total of 14 games before the top one-third of the field moves on to the Advancers Round, a four-game event beginning at 9 a.m. July 14.
After that four games, the field will be cut to the top 24 for best-of-three match play at 12:30 p.m. the same day, with winners advancing until the final four winners and the highest eliminated qualifier advance to the stepladder finals, set for 6 p.m. All action will be live on BowlTV.
First place will pay $7,500, with bowlers rolling on the World Championship 48-foot oil pattern.
Bowlers in the field include Brad Angelo, Chris Barnes, Jason Couch, Tom Daugherty, Tom Hess, John Janawicz, Liz Johnson, Rudy Kasimakis, Mika Koivuniemi, Amleto Monacelli, Ryan Shafer, Sammy Ventura, Chris Warren and Pete Weber.
Among are players in the field are John Brockway, Ed Carter, Michael Clark Jr., Dale Csuhta, Dan Higgins Jr., Don Hogue, Tony Johnson, John Kertis, Jerry Rich, Greg Wilmoth and Rick Zakrajsek.

In addition, the PBA50 Ohio Lottery Baldo Campana-Dave D’Entremont-Joe Delmonico Memorial Central Open also is set for July 15 at Rebman Recreation in Lorain.
This will be a one-day event, with bowlers rolling seven qualifying games beginning at 9 a.m., with the top 12 advancing to bracket match play based on 36 entries. Subsequent rounds of eight and fur will immediately follow, with the final two players bowling for the title. Barnes is the defending champion.
Among pros participating are Barnes, Daugherty and Larry Verble,, who claimed the PBA60 World Championship earlier this week.
A pro-am is set for 6:30 p.m. July 14 for a $25 fee. See details below:

PBA50: RAKOSKI LEADS IN BOWLING GREEN
BOWLING GREEN — Jon Rokoski averaged 241 over eight qualifying games to take the lead heading into the Advancers Round in the PBA50 Gary Schluchter Memorial Central Midwest Classic on Thursday at Al-Mar Lanes.
Rakoski standings with 1,929 total pinfall to top the 87-player field by 79 pins over second-place Akron right-hander Don Hogue (1,850). The remainder of the top five include Steve Kenyon (1,844), Tom Adcock (1,826) and Joe Fuller (1,823).
John Verbich was the cut number following three qualifying shifts at 1,691, finishing just three pins ahead of nonmember Jim Beaverton (1,88) and five in front of Springfield left-hander Michael Haggitt and Randy Weiss (1,686).
The remaining 29 bowlers will bowl four Advancer Round games beginning at 10 a.m. Friday before the field is cut again to the top 16 for three more games. The field will then be cut again to the top eight for two more games until the final cut to the top four for the stepladder finals beginning at 3 p.m.
