WOODBRIDGE, Va. —For the second straight day bowlers were moving up and down the standings at the 2026 Bud Moore PBA50 Players Championship.
During the first eight games of round-robin match play, defending champion Tom Hess was crushing the pins. He had 205, 247, 300, 253, 247, 257, 300 and 237 for 2,046. With his 7-1 record, he went from 11th place to first.
Chris Barnes moved into second with 1,956 and 150 bonus pins. Amleto Monacelli also went 7-1 with a huge round of 2,028, going from 21st to 3rd.
But in Round 2 at Bowl America Woodbridge, Barnes rolled a perfect game to add to his overall total of 8,294 with bonus pins. He used a 10-6 record to take over first place. Hess dropped to second with 8,242.
“I felt like I bowled really good in the morning, but Hess beat me by almost a hundred. Amleto beat me by about 70. I didn’t feel like I left too many pins out there,” Barnes said. “Most likely I will have to put together some kind of effort like that again. Hess has a pretty good look on the fresh and I don’t anticipate that changing much.”
Mika Koivuniemi had 1,846 and 1,928 along with a 11-5 record putting him in third at 8,234. Monacelli dropped to fourth at 8,094 and Brad Angelo used his 11-5 record to move into fifth place with 8,093.
Parker Bohn III also scored big in the afternoon. He rolled the highest second block with 1,962. Paired with his overall 9-7 record, Bohn III is 52-pins outside of the top five. Ricky Schissler also had a 300 game Tuesday.
“Mika, Hess and I have mostly separated (from the rest of the top 24). They are both bowling great, so I will have to really bowl well to stay out front,” Barnes said. “The times this week when I really got in rhythm it has been really good. So, I just have to get into a rhythm in the morning.”
The final eight games of round-robin match play begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday. The top five will then advance to the stepladder finals that will be held on the private lanes inside tournament sponsor Bill Moore’s home. Those finals are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
