MINSTER — Four-time Professional Bowlers Association Player of the Year E.J. Tackett claimed his 15th regional title Sunday in winning the PBA Kremer Roofing Central Classic at Community Lanes.
Tackett, the No. 2 seed for the stepladder finals, defeated Ethan Fiore 227-195 to earn the victory in an 86-player field.
Tackett led the eight-game qualifying round with 1,870 total pinfall, finishing just one pin ahead of Willowick right-hander Dean Vargo (1,869).
The top 29 after qualifying moved on to the four-game Advancers Round, where the field was then cut to the top 16 for three more games, followed by another cut to the top eight for two more games, followed by the stepladder finals.
Urbana’s Graham Fach stopped nonmember Riley Speer, a Southern Nazarene University sophomore, in a battle of left-handers 248-232.
Tackett then stopped Fach 244-217 before defeating Fiore in the title match.
Tackett, the two-time defending PBA player of the year, earned $4,000 with the win.
North Canton Hoover High School graduate Chase Wensel, now bowling for Trine University, cashed in his first PBA regional event, finishing 24th overall. Another nonmember, two-time regional winner Aidan Furukawa, finished seventh overall with Parma pro Patrick Dombrowski finishing sixth. Vargo was 11th overall.
A week of Central Region events continues Wednesday with the PBA Dave & Diane Kill Central Open Delphos Recreation Center in Delphos with three eight-game qualifying squads at 8 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The week will then conclude with the PBA Bowlerstore com Central Classic beginning Saturday at Pla-Mor Lanes in Coldwater with three eight-game qualifying shifts.

STARK USBC: HALL OF FAME DINNER DEADLINE
CANTON — The deadline for reservations for the Stark County USBC Hall of Fame dinner and enshrinement is Aug. 11.
There will be no tickets sold at the door. This year’s inductees include Don Sprout, Jim Williams, Matthew J. McCourry, Brian Buehler and Cayce Burkholder.

BOWLER SETS LORAIN MARK
AMHERST — Bettsville left-hander Haden Tarris, who had helped lead his team to a second-place finish at the 30-team Bob Cooke Memorial 5-Man Baker Team Tournament at Lex Lanes in Lancaster, set a Lorain County record Sunday during the Survivor Tournament at Park Bar and Grill.
Using his Storm Concept, the ball he also used during the Baker event, the Indiana Tech University player had games of 300, 299 and 299 for a 898 series. The eight-lane center has string pins.
