DELPHOS — A.J. Johnson, a 33-year-old Oswego, Ill., right-hander, earned his 12th regional title by topping Brett Lloyd 217-200 in the title match of the PBA Dave & Diane Kill Central Open on Thursday at Delphos Recreation.
Johnson, the No. 2 seed after Thursday’s eight-game advancers round, defeated Hayden Hale 194-192 in the semifinal match to go against top-seeded Lloyd, who won at Coldwater a year ago.
Lloyd led the field following the advancers round with 3,733 total pinfall, finishing just two pins ahead of Johnson after 16 total games.
Hale defeated Isaiah Shannon 203-180 in the opening stepladder match.
Among area players, Willowick’s Dean Vargo finished eighth overall (3,623), Cuyahoga Falls’ Bryce Oliver was 14th (3,4376) and North Ridgeville’s Dylan Mishak was 21st (1,638) as each cashed in the event.
The regional pros will be at Pla-Mor Lanes in Coldwater beginning Saturday for the PBA Bowlerstore com Central Classic, the last event before the change to the PBA Elite regional schedule in September.

JTBA: SERIES HOLDS KICKOFF EVENT IN COLUMBUS
COLUMBUS — The Junior Tournament Bowlers Association, now under the guidance of Ironton’s Andre and Kirby Allen, held its kickoff event Aug. 9 at Columbus Square Bowling Palace with 100 total entries over three age divisions for boys and girls
Bowlers rolled five qualifying games before the respective fields were cut according to entries for single-elimination, two-game match play.
Andrew Allen has taken on the role of director along with Kirby Allen. “We are fully committed to this upcoming season, aiming to further the future of JTBA, youth bowling, and youth sports in general,” Andrew Allen wrote on a news release on the JTBA website.
The pair are the founders of “Youth Stars,” a company building youth scholarships through sports, with bowling as the main focus.
Parma lefty two-hander Zachary Mayne stopped Mason Woodward 458-410 to capture the boys 18U division in the opener, with Ashlyn Street defeating Sara Augustitus 356-336 to claim the girls 18U division.
