CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Darren Fitzsimons captured his first regional title Sunday by topping the field at the C. Adam Toney Tire Pros PBA50 Central/South Open at Galaxy Lanes.
Fitzsimmons defeated Anthony Crews 210-193 in the title match to win $2,500 in the 88-player field.
The original field bowled eight qualifying games, divided into two squads, before the top 16 advanced to best-of-three match play on the PBA Roth 42 oil pattern. The semifinals and finals were single-game elimination.
Victor W. Florie Jr., who shot the event’s lone 300 game, was third followed by Lewis Center’s Dan Higgins Jr.
Crews was the qualifying leader with 1,920 total pinfall (240 average), followed by Brent Watson (1,832) and Fitzsimmons (1,815).
The final cut spot went to Scott Eddy at 1,741, seven pins ahead of Troy McKinney.
The final cash spot went to Carl Breaman at 1,653 in 29th place. Super seniors earning cash spots included Gary Alston, James Lord and James Winterfeld while super duper seniors (age 70 and older) Darryl Bower, Ken Gibson and Wadsworth’s Dale Csuhta also cashed.
The PBA’s new ELITE regional tour of three events in the Central Region will kick off Oct. 2 to 4 at EZ Bowl in Bluffton, Ind. There is registration for both standard and senior division bowlers.

JTBA: MAYNE WINS AGAIN
AKRON — Parma’s Zachary Mayne topped the boys 18U division for the second straight event to kick off the 2026-27 season for the Ohio Junior Tournament Bowlers Association at Spins Bowl Akron.
Bowling on the 2026 USBC U22 Queens 42-foot oil pattern in the Akron Youth Open, Mayne, the No. 2 seed following qualifying, defeated top-seeded Drew Parker 448-436 in the two-game cumulative title match.
The 82-player field rolled five qualifying games before the respective field were cut for rounds of two-game cumulative match play by seed.
Hinkley two-hander Gracie Dunne topped the girls 18U division by defeating Wadsworth’s Aubrey Masuda 391-360 in the title match. Dunne was the No. 4 qualifier and Masada was No. 7 in the 13-player field.
Other winners included:
- Kristian Briscoe in the boys 16U division, defeating Brandon Masters 454-407.
- Makayla Davis defeated Danielle Martyka 370-281 to win the girls 16U division.
- Aaron Cabiness topped Asa Wilson-Perry 394-370 in the boys 14U division.
- Peyton Głowacki stopped Amelia Monroe 290-182 in the girls 14U division.
