Bowling briefs: USBC Stark: Shenanigan Girls claim team title

CANTON — Shenanigan Girl finished with 3,252 total pinfall to claim the team title during the Stark County USBC’s 89th Women’s Handicap Tournament at Eastbury Bowling Center.

Ashley Boudreaux led Shenanigan with a 532 series. Other team members included Chrissie Kunkle 339, Nicole Boord 488, Tiffany Kalleker 412 and Rachel Cheezan 449.

Shenanigan finished seven pins ahead of Canton-based Pritchett (3,245) and nine pins ahead of third-place Jacked Up On Wine of Massillon (3,243).

Low to cash was Dana’s Dog Spa in fifth place with 3,192 from North Canton.

Schmitt No. 2 turned in the high actual series of 2,979. Kara Thomas led Schmitt No. 2 with 631, followed by Mary Sample 609, Taylor Sturm 595, Tiffany Schmitt 583 and Breanna Mowls 561.

Renae Burns turned in the top individual series of the team event with 724, and Dawn Gardner had the high game with 279.

Singles and doubles will have shifts at 6:30 p.m. April 22 and 1:30 p.m. April 23, also at Eastbury.

SWEEPER SET APRIL 24

AKRON — The next Mac’s Cabana Scratch Doubles sweeper is set for 4 p.m. April 24 at Spins Bowl Akron.

Entry fee is $100 per team for the scratch event, with bowlers rolling four qualifying games over four sets of lanes before the field is cut to the top four for stepladder finals.

This event has an earlier starting time, and there will be a Storm bowling ball raffle

TRAVEL LEAGUE DRAFT

The Northeast Ohio Travel League will hold its annual draft at 7 p.m. May 21 at Eastbury Bowling Center.

The leagues bowls on Thursday nights for a 30-week season beginning Sept. 8 with 16 teams in four divisions. League fee is $25 per week.

There is a $10 application fee.

The league will have division play at 8:30 p.m. April 21 at AMF Hall of Fame, followed by the league’s annual rolloff at 8:30 p.m. April 28 at Spins Bowl Akron.

FURBAY SET FOR MAY 1

PERRY TWP. — The 20th annual Furbay Electric Open is set for 9 a.m. May 1 at AMF Hall of Fame Lanes.

Entry fee is $75, with bowlers rolling five qualifying games before the field is cut to the top 20 for two-game match-play rounds based on seed, culminating with a stepladder finals for the final five.

First place is worth $1,000 based on 7 entries. As of Saturday, there were 115 bowlers in the field.

HALL OF FAME SERIES BEGINS MAY 26

PERRY TWP. — AMF Hall of Fame Lanes will be hosting the Hall of Fame Summer Series beginning May 26 with doubles and singles.

Entry fee is $40 per event, with first place paying $250 based on 25 bowlers. Each event will be bowled on specific oil patterns, including the USBC Open Championships and U.S. Open patters fro the pastor seasons.

Bowlers will roll four qualifying games before the field is cut to the top five for stepladder finals. Each week’s winner, in addition to the next 10 in the point standings, will qualifying for the summer finale set for Aug. 11.
