COLUMBUS — A pair of area sophomores — Wooster’s Abbie Leiendecker and Tuslaw’s Cameron Kilgore — had solid performances during the 14th annual Ohio 7th-12th Grade State Doubles Championships on Saturday.
Kilgore and partner Hayden Tarris of Old Fort finished third in the 9th-12th grade boys division with 1,773. He also teamed with Grant Taylor to finish fourth in the 7th-8th grade division with 1,598 at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.
Doubles teams rolled eight Baker System games, alternating frames, with total pinfall determining final placement. There was no bracket or stepladder finals play.
In the girls division, Leiendecker teamed with Wilmington freshman Kylie Fisher to take second in the 9th-12th grade division with 1,629. Fisher teamed with Amherst Steele’s Makayla Velasquez to top that division with 1,732.
Bowlers were permitted to enter more than once with different partners.
Leiendecker also teamed with Hubbard’s John Jacobs to place fourth in the mixed division with 1,730. Velasquez again won that division, teaming with Parma Padua’s Brandon Tahsler for 1,837 total pinfall.
New Albany senior Elliot Greer and Kent Roosevelt senior Matthew Richards topped by boys 9th-12th division with 1,878, including shooting 279 the final game to win by 70 pins.

STARK USBC SETS YOUTH CHALLENGE EVENT
CANTON — The Stark County USBC will hold a Youth Singles Challenge Shot event at 10 a.m. May 14 at Eastbury Bowling Center.
Entry fee is $50 per player, and the event will be bowled on the Kegel Broadway Challenge oil pattern.
Bowlers will roll four qualifying games before the field is cut to the top eight for two-game match play. This is a scratch event with separate divisions for boys and girls.
The Stark USBC is adding $500 to the prize fund and brackets will be available.
