HIGH SCHOOL: Wooster duo captures state doubles title
COLUMBUS — Wooster High School’s Abbie Leiendecker and Triway’s Emma Yoder shot 269 in Game 1 and earned the victory in the grades 9-12 division during the the 16th annual Ohio 7th-12th Grade State Doubles Championships on Saturday at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.
Leiendecker and Yoder finished with 1,683 total pinfall to top the 23-team field by 130 pins. They had four games over 200, including 232 in Game 8 on the
Teams in all divisions rolled eight Baker System (alternate frames) games to determine the champions.
The team of Troy’s Alyana Godwin and Wilmington’s Kylie Fisher finished second (1,553), followed by Jillian Justinger (Fairport Harbor Harding) and Heather Walker (Mentor) with 1,550.
Winning teams earned medals and the top placers were awarded SMART scholarship funds.
In the boys 9-12 division, Ironton’s Andrew Allen and Coal Grove’s Blake Landers earned the title with 1,817, including a high game of 266.
They finished 78 pins ahead of Old Fort’s Hayden Tarris and Tuslaw’s Cameron Kilgore (1,739), with the Ashland duo of Max Oaken and Landon Dreibelbis finishing third (1,731). Allen and Landers had a low game of 191 during their eight-game set.
There also was a mixed doubles division, with Smithville’s Breanna Hartzler and Pickerington North’s Jacob Neubauer topping the field with 1,821, 96 pins ahead of Gahanna Lincoln’s Delaney Rossette and Beavercreek’s Carson Shroyer (1,724).

JTBA: Leiendecker, Oaken claim titles
COLUMBUS — Wooster’s Abbie Leiendecker and Ashland’s Max Oaken claimed titles during Sunday’s Junior Tournament Bowlers Association Columbus Open at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.
Bowlers rolled five qualifying games before fields in each of the boys and girls age divisions were cut for rounds of two-game match play.
Leiendecker, the No. 3 seed in the 25-player girls 18 division field, stopped No. 1-seeded Peyton Hartgrove 415-390 in the title match.
In the boys 15 division of 38 players, seventh-seeded Oaken stopped his Ashland teammate and No. 4 seed Landon Dreibelbis 450-388 to claim the win.
Other champions included:
- Jayden Combs defeated Bryce Lewin 545-453, with Combs shooting a 300 during his final match-play game for the win in the 61-player boys 18 division.
- East Liverpool’s Addison Rudibaugh defeated Kylie Fisher 425-322 in the girls 15 division.
- Miles Gordon defeated Isaiah Durflinger 378-348 in the under-12 division.

ADULT: Upcoming area tournaments approach
Two Stark County tournaments are set for the next two weekends, including:
- The 21st annual Furbay Electric Open is set for 9 a.m. May 7 at AMF Hall of Fame Lanes on the traditional Furbay oil pattern. Entry fee is $75, with bowlers rolling five qualifying games before the field is cut to the top 20 for two-game match play based on seed until five remain for the stepladder finals. - The eligibility list has been determined for College Bowl Tournaments end-of-season singles event, set for 10 a.m. May 13 at AMF Hall of Fame Lanes. Bowlers must have participated in at least four of the organization’s events to compete in the final tourney. There will be an additional $1,480 added to the prize fund, with funds added throughout the season. The list of eligible players includes Brian Ball, John Barnard, Tony Confalone, Ray Cook, Jason Gribble, J.D. Jones, Adam Kutz, Alex Lincoln, Alex McCourry, Brett McCourry, Justin McIlvain, Kevin Muskiewicz Jr., John Randolph, Austin Reese, Robert Sample, Rick Shawver, Nathan Sommers, Scott Vandegrift, Rob Weary, Jim Williams and Keith Zeigler. - The Stark County USBC Open Championships continue this week at AMF Hall of Fame, with opening each night through Friday for singles and doubles. Shifts are at 6:30 p.m. each night.
