
HEATH — Top-seeded Graham Fach went 10-1 during match play to storm to the No. 1 seed and then topped Patrick Dombrowski 222-203 to top Sunday’s PBA Park Lanes Central Open at Park Lanes Bowling Center for his ninth careeer regional title and third this season.
Fach, who was the No. 2 seed after Saturday’s eight-game qualifying round, compiled the best record in match play Sunday with just one loss. The 30-year-old Urbana left-hander then stopped No. 4-seeded Dombrowski, a 43-year-old Parma right-hander who owns seven regional titles, for the win to earn $2,600.
Springfield’s Chris Via stopped Cory Hersha of Larwill, Ind., 286-215 in the opening stepladder match before falling to Dombrowski 224-211. Dombrowski then topped Chillicothe right-hander Brandon Novak 225-221 to reach the title match against Fach.
Qualifying leader Tim Pfeifer of Oakdale, Pa., finished seventh overall after compiling a 5-6 match-play record. He led qualifying in the 70-player field with 1,799 total pinfall (224.88 average), 90 pins ahead of Fach.
Among area players, Dover’s Austin Reinerts finished 33rd with 1,472, and Northfield’s Ryan Liederbach was 42nd with 1,392. The cut to tne top 16 for match play was at 1,563 as Jaxon Rickey edged Michael Tang by just one pin.
Bailey Mavrick of Peru, Ind., who finished 23rd with 1,521, earned the final cash spot.
The next Central Region event is July 15-17 at Suburban Lanes in Morgantown, W. Va.
