PBA Central Rregion: Dombrowski earns eighth regional title

ANGOLA, Ind. — Qualifying leader Patrick Dombrowski compiled a 5-3 match-play record, including wins in his first four matches Sunday, en route to victory in the PBA Farmers State Bank Central-Midwest Open.

The 44-year-old Parma right-hander captured his eighth regional title, topping a field of 60 players. Bowlers rolled eight qualifying games before the field was cut to the top 20 for the advancers round. The final eight then bowled match play, with bonus pins being awarded.

Dombrowski, who held the lead at the conclusion of each round, topped Graham Fach 198-186 in his final position round match to earn a 130-pin victory over Nick Kruml for the title.

Dombrowski averaged a tourney-high 213.67 for 21 games and finished with 4,637 total pinfall for the victory.

Urbana left-hander Fach finished third with 4,503. Among area players, Northfield’s Ryan Liederbach was 55th with 1,349.

Justin O’Shkaughnessy was the cut to the advancers round with 1,559. Westerville’s Zeke Bayt was the cut for the match-play round with 2,621 after 13 games.

The Central Region continues play beginning Aug 9 with the PBA Kremer Roofing Central Classic in Minster, followed by the PBA bowlerstore.com Classic beginning Friday at Pla-Mor Lanes in Coldwater. The latter is a super regional event.
