H.S. tournaments: Ashland sweeps in own event; JVs battle in Canton

ASHLAND BAKER BASH

ASHLAND — Ashland High School’s boys and girls teams stopped Triway in best-of-three Baker System finals to capture their respective divisions during the Ashland Baker Bash on Saturday at Luray Lanes.

The Ashland boys, who shot 297 during their 16th and final Baker game of the qualifying round, stopped the Titans 212-171 and 242-187 to sweep to the title.

The Arrows, who completed qualifying with 3,292 total pinfall in the 12-team boys field, defeated Mansfield Senior 172-164 and 233-195 in their opening match.

Triway, the No. 3 seed with 3,166, defeated Marion Harding 205-203 and 191-166 to reach the title match.

Canton McKinley’s boys finished seventh in the field with 2,846.

In the girls division, Ashland led qualifying with 3,064 for the 16 Baker games, finishing 54 pins ahead of second-place Triway (3,010). McKinley was seventh with 2,160.

During match play, Ashland topped Wooster 2-1 in the semifinals, winning Game 3 192-123, and Triway swept by Lexington 192-166 and 197-140.

The Arrows claimed the title 2-1, winning Game 3 205-200.

HORNET INTEGRITY JV

CANTON — Green’s girls and Boardman’s boys captured titles during Saturday’s Hornet Integrity Junior Varsity Tournament at Eastbury Bowling Center.

The Green girls, led by Brooklyn Krager’s tourney-high 576 series, topped the field with 3,066 total pinfall, 101 pins ahead of second-place Perry (2,905) in the 13-team field.

Teams rolled three regular games and five Baker System games on the house oil pattern.

East Canton’s Blue team finished third (2,677) and Rootstown was fourth (2,666).

Perry’s Arielle Clapper finished second individually with 513, followed by Green’s Layla Nickolas (503).

In the boys division, Boardman shot 164 during its final Baker game to just 137 for Berea-Midpark to claim the title. The Spartans finished with 3,624, with Berea-Midpark second (3,618) and Perry third (3,536).

Berea-Midpark’s Luke Nedoma was the high individual with 661, followed by Boardman’s Chase Reality with 647 and Berea-Midpark’s Anthony Mandry with 607. Perry’s Cameron Hervey also shot 599.
