H.S. Report: Hoover, Conotton Valley capture Muskingum Invitational titles

COSHOCTON — Seventh-seeded North Canton Hoover lost just one game against three opponents during the match-play rounds to capture the boys division title during the Muskingum University Invitational high school bowling tournament Saturday at Legacy Lanes.

The event, contested on the OHSAA-sanctioned sectional and district oil pattern, had 15 teams in the boys division.

The Vikings, who finished qualifying with 2,871 total pinfall, stopped No. 2-seeded Perry 2-0 in their opening match, before stopping No. 6 seed Pickerington Central 2-1, winning Game 3 170-134.

In the title match, Hoover swept No 4-seeded Chillicothe, winning Game 1 195-1567 and Game 2 179-141.

Individually for the Vikings, Chase Wenzel led the way with a 565 series to finish seventh overall, followed by Connor Lab with 522 and Austin Crowe with 508.

Conotton Valley was the No. 1 seed following qualifying, which consisted of three regular games and three Baker System games, with 3,173, finishing 202 pins head of No 2 Perry (2,971).

The Rockets’ Bobby Brennan was the individual boys champion with 624, the lone bowler to exceed 600. Nolan Caldwell also added 565.

Conotton Valley, after stopping No. 8 seed East Liverpool in the first round of match play, fell in three games to Chillicothe during the semifinals as the Rockets lost a two-frame rolloff 40-26 after tying at 173 in Game 3.

The Panthers were led by Evan Nave’s 541 series.

ROCKET GIRLS WIN

The Conotton Valley girls swept to the girls division title with a 2-0 win over Jonathan Alder. The Rockets, who were the No. 1 seed with 2,923, topped Chillicothe 2-0 in their opening match before stopping No. 4 seed Newark in the semifinals 2-1, rolling a 210 in Game 3 to the latter’s 177.

Daphne Stuber led the Rockets with a 533 series, followed by Mackenzie Willoughby’s 528.

East Liverpool’s Addison Rudibaugh was the high girls individual with 545.

Perry finished as the No. 3 seed with 2,547 in the 15-team field. But the Panthers fell to Jonathan Alder in their opening match 2-1, losing Game 3 196-132.

Kiele Poling led the Panthers with a 455 series, and Shayla Turner added 445.

In other high school action Saturday:

  • Beavercreek’s boys and Gahanna Lincoln’s girls captured titles during the Pioneer Baker Bash at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace in Columbus. Qualifying consisted of 16 Baker System games before the field were cut to the top eight in both the boys and girls divisions based on total pinfall for best-of-three match play. Beavercreek won the boys title with a 2-1 win over Hilliard Davidson in the 32-team field. Lincoln stopped Westerville South 2-0 in the girls title match. Beavercreek was the No. 1 seed in both the boys (3,245) and girls (2,943) divisions, with the latter having 25 teams. Canton McKinley missed the cut in the boys division, finishing 11th with 2,923, and the Bulldog girls were 15th with 2,040. See complete results here:

  • Stow-Munroe Falls boys and Amherst Steele’s girls captured titles during the Westlake Demon Classic in Parma on Sunday. Stow-Munroe Falls finished with 4,370 total pinfall as the event consisted of three regular games and six Baker System games. Cleveland St. Ignatius was second with 4,156 in the 17-team field. Along the girls, Amherst finished with 3,858, with Magnificat taking second with 3,644 in the 15-team field. No individual results were available. For team results,, go to:
