Bowling briefs: Stark USBC women complete play; coaches select All-Northeast District teams; Green’s Perrine earns honor

STARK USBC: Women’s tournament concludes run

CANTON — The Stark County United State Bowling Congress announced its unofficial winners for singles, doubles and all-events following conclusion of the 90th annual Women’s Championships at AMF Hall of Fame Lanes.

In handicap doubles, the team of Katelynn Eldred and Chelsea Dorosky took honors with 1,375 total pinfall, finishing just five pins ahead of Kelli Kuretak and Dawn Gardner.

Alliance’s Tiffany Kalleker took handicap singles honors with 774, finishing 54 pins ahead of Canton’s Renae Burns, with Canton’s Jackie Shahan taking third with 717.

Kalleker doubled up by also taking handicap all-events (team, singles, doubles) with 2,225, finishing 150 pins ahead of Mary Puskarich (2,075), with Massillon’s Mandi Testa taking third (2,067).

Testa also topped the field in actual all-events with 2,067, finishing 145 pins ahead of Canton’s Theresa Terrigan, with Louisville’s Allison Maurer finishing third with 1,875.

Eldred turned in the top doubles actual series with 695 white Burns shot 263 en route to 720 to lead in singles.

The Stark USBC Open Championships has its final team tourney day Friday, with singles and doubles beginning Saturday also at AMF Hall of Fane Lanes.

Top doubles series: Katelyn Eldred 695, Mandi Testa 663, Dawn Gardner 641, Theresa Terrigan 611, Kelli Kutak 606, Chrissy Brady 605.

Top singles series: Renae Burns 263-720, 617, Allison Maurer 247-672, Jackie Shahan 243-666, Mandi Testa 625, Chelsea Dorosky 618, Lindsay Johnston 615, Kamryn Smith 608.

HIGH SCHOOL: Coaches select All-Northeast District teams

Members of the Ohio High School Bowling Coaches Association Northeast District announced their all-district team for the 2022-23 season recently.

This is the second year that district coaches have selected such a team.

Leading the Division I boys first team was Canton McKinley High School senior Zachary McCutchan, who earned 18 votes — one ahead of Medina Highland’s Kyle Dunn.

Also earning first team honors from the Stark County High School Bowling Conference along with McCutchan was Lake sophomore Zac Abbott.

In Division I girls, Wooster senior Abbie Leiendecker topped the first team with 18 votes, one ahead of Green senior Marissa Perrine.

In Division II, Tuslaw’s Cameron Kilgore, who bowled as an individual during tournament play since the Mustangs do not have a team, earned the final spot on the first team which was lead by Rootstown’s Justin Miller (18 votes).

In Division II girls, Champion’s Kris Dickson led the team with 17 votes.

Ties were determined by the highest average.

H.S. BOWLING: Perrine receives coaches’ state award

Green High School senior Marissa Perrine was one of four recipients of the Ohio High School Bowling Coaches Association’s High School Bowler of the Year Award for the 2022-23 season.

Each winner, two in each division, receive a SMART college scholarship and plaque from the association.

Winners were nominated by coaches who are members of the OHSBCA.

Other winners for this season include Nordonia’s Bryce Lewin, joining Perrine as Division I winners; Ironton’s Andrew Allen in Division II boys; and Wauseon’s Kymberlee Yocum in Division II girls.

Triway’s Emma Yoder was the 2021-22 Division II girls recipient.
