Bowling briefs: Junior-adult, Portage USBC events conclude play; hall of fame revival; Akron doubles sweeper set

JUNIOR BOWLING: Nave family finishes well during Junior-Adult event

NORTH CANTON — The team of Erick and Eli Nave of Perry Township topped an 18-team field in the junior divisions during the Stark County USBC Junior-Adult Spring Scholarship tournament Sunday at Park Centre Lanes.

The Nave duo finished with 1,419 total pinfall in the junior 12-14 handicap division to win by 16 pins over Massillon’s Arielle Clapper and Forrest Friley (1,409), with Uniontown’s Payton Taylor and Joe Taylor (1,368) taking third.

In addition, Erick Nave teamed with Evan Nave to tie for first place in the 11-team seniors-majors division with 1,354 along with Canton’s Riley Waggoner and Scott Wagoner. The team of Abigail Meffert and Jeff Mowls finished third with 1,347.

The lone entry in the preps 9-11 division, Emmalee For and Jacquelynn Ford, won with 1,464.

Proceeds from the event go toward the Stark County USBC Scholarship fund.

TOURNAMENT: Akron Scratch Doubles Sweeper set May 21

AKRON — Spins Bowl Akron will host its monthly Scratch Doubles Sweeper at 6 p.m. May 21.

Entry fee is $110, with doubles teams rolling four qualifying games on the house oil condition, moving after each game, with the field then being cut to the top four for the stepladder finals.

CASHOF RESURRECTS BOWLING HALL OF FAME INDUCTIONS

CANTON — The Greater Canton Amateur Sports Hall of Fame is resurrecting inductions into the Stark County Bowling Hall of Fame this year.

Nomination forms are available at area centers in three categories: men or women’s superior performance; meritorious service and recognition of contribution.

Qualifiers in the first two categories (A and B) must fulfill the following requirements:

Other halls of fame that will be inducting new classes are fumbleball and disc golf.

PORTAGE USBC: Tournament champions crowned during Open, Women’s championships

KENT — Middlefield’s DNR and Doylestown’s Bowlers Sanctuary No. 3 captured team titles as the 76th annul,al Portage County USBC Open Championships came to a close recently at Spins Bowl Kent.

In the scratch team division, Bowlers Sanctuary finished with 3,479, finishing 28 pins had of Akron’s Pitter Patter, with DNR completing play with 3,795, 69 pins ahead of Corona Extra from Stow.

In the women’s division, Dysfunctional Family topped both the handicap (3,794) and scratch divisions (3,303)

All scores remain unofficial, with official results being revealed with payouts on May 14.
