MEGA Event: Gonzales tops early singles squad

COLUMBUS — Andre Gonzales finished with 1,886 total pinfall over eight games to take the early lead during the $10,000 Shovel City Motorsports HP Lanes MEGA Singles event Saturday at HP Lanes.

Gonzales, a Saginaw, Mich., left-hander, had a high game of 257 with a low game of 193 in his final game. An additional squad of more than 80 bowlers was expected to bowl eight more games before the cut for Sunday’s Cashers’ Round, which will be the top 1-in-5 for the field.

Defending champion Mykel Holliman was second with 1,882, just four pins behind Gonzales, with Jordan Malott third at 1,861 and Urbana left-hander Graham Fach fourth at 1,860.

Holliman and Fach each had 279 for the high game of the shift.
