
Canton Central Catholic High School coach Taylor Devaul had her third career 300 game and teamed with Triway senior Addy Meshew to capture the 18U girls title during the Junior Tournament Bowlers Association UPike Adult-Junior Doubles tournament recently at Roseland Lanes in Oakwood.
Meshew and Devaul stopped Brian Wells and Bethany Strong 375-326 in the two-game Baker System final to claim the title.
The tournament drew 79 overall teams in four divisions, with teams rolling five qualifying games before fields in each division were cut for two-game Baker System match play.
The team of Triway’s Emma Yoder and Jodi Woessner were the qualifying leaders in the girls 18U with 2,143, just six pins ahead of Meshew and Devaul. Devaul had the high overall series with 1,214 total pinfall, 40 pins ahead of Woessner.
In the boys 18U, Tuslaw’s Cameron Kilgore and Doylestown’s Joe Bailey were the qualifying leaders with 2,331, but the team of Dublin’s Nicholas Bremer and Ryan Bremer, the No. 17 seed out of 22 teams making the cut, claimed the win by shooting 491 in the final four-way match.
Rusty Walter had the high series with 1,245, with Bailey second with 1,236.
Other division winners included:
- In the girls 15U division, Jackson sophomore Rylee Dunn and Louisville’s Kara Kutz stopped Perry’s Arielle Clapper and Dawn Eckenrode 395-373 for the win. Jenna Stretch turned in the high series with 1,139, followed by Kutz with 1,118.
- In the boys 15U division, Kyle Mayberry and Isaiah Durflinger captured the win with a 478 during a four-way final, with Ty and Michael McKinney taking second with 423. Adam Barta and Ashland’s Max Oeken were the high qualifiers with 2,395, with Kevin Cowper being the high individual with 1,248, just three pins ahead of Barta.
The JTBA now takes the high school bowling season off before resuming March 10 with its Welcome Back tournament in Columbus.

SUMMIT USBC HOLDS YOUTH EVENTS
The Summit County USBC held singles, doubles and trio events during September and October at Station 300 Akron, Charger and Clutch Lanes and Sports Center.
All-events champions in unofficial results included Declan Villagomez (10U) 1,965 total pinfall; Caleb Hunsche (12U) 2,239; Marcus Brown (15U) 2,390; and Michael Knox (18U) 2,094.

SPINS AKRON SWEEPER: Another in a series doubles scratch sweepers will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 29 at Spins Bowl Akron. Teams will bowl four qualifying games before the field is cut for the stepladder finals. For details, contact Frank Dallas on Facebook.
OHIO MATCHPLAY: Ohio Matchplay Tournaments, open to bowlers age 50-and-older, will hold the Breast Cancer Awareness Shootout at 10 a.m. Oct. 28 at Blue Fusion Fun Center in Marion. Entry fee is $110, with bowlers bowling five qualifying games before the field is cut for head-to-head single-game match play. Payouts are 1-in-4. TRIWAY SWEEPER: Triway Lanes will hold a Sunday Sweeper at 10 a.m. Oct. 29. Entry fee is $30 for the scratch event, with bowlers rolling four games to determine the winner. See details on Triway Lanes Facebook page. In addition, the Try Not To Suck No-Tap tournament will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 28. That is a handicap event with a $25 entry fee and bowlers also rolling four games.
STARK COUNTY USBC: The Stark County USBC is holding a Halloween Youth Doubles at 10 a.m. Oct. 29 at AMF Hall of Fame Lanes. Entry fee is $50 per team for the handicap event with bowlers rolling two individual games and four Baker System games. Competition will be in three divisions for girls and boys. HIT DEM POCKETS: Hit Dem Pockets will hold its Holiday Cash Tournament at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at North Woods Lanes in Macedonia. Entry fe is $50 for the handicap event, with bowlers rolling five games on a modified house shot. For information, go to Hit Dem Pockets’ Facebook page.
HILES TOURNAMENTS: The their annual Baker Doubles Open, in memory of Jon Dalton Hiles, will be held at 9 a.m. Oct. 28 at Hollywood Casino at the Meadows in Pittsburgh. Entry fee is $120 per team with bowlers rolling eight qualifying Baker System games. The second squad is set for 2 p.m. The top 1-in-6 teams from each squad make the 7 p.m. finals.
