
GARRETTSVILLE — North Canton Hoover High School’s boys topped a 16-team field to capture Saturday’s G-Men Classic at SkyLane Bowling.
The Vikings, fourth-seeded following qualifying and making the cut to the top four by just 21 pins over Warren Champion, defeated top-seeded Boardman 2-1 (171-194, 197-167, 191-161) in the best-of-three Baker System semifinals.
Hoover then swept past No. 2 seed Twinsburg (239-155, 216-214) to capture the title in the 16-lane wood surface center.
The Spartans topped qualifying, which consisted of three regular games and five Baker games, with 4,013, finishing 204 pins ahead of Twinsburg. Hoover finished with 3,707.
Boardman’s Ben Hldebrand (674) and Austin Rule (647) turned in the top two individual scores.
During the girls 16-team event Sunday, top-seeded Boardman earned the victory with a 2-0 (194-191, 191-178) sweep of Rootstown in the best-of-three Baker finals.
The Spartans defeated No. 4 seed Hoover 2-1 (143-144, 179-130, 183-156) in the semifinals while the Rovers topped No. 3 seed Norton 2-0 (152-135, 176-159).
The Spartans posted the top three individual scores in the girls division — Marissa Funk (697), Kaitlyn Greenaway (638) and Gabby Venetti (592) — as Boardman top qualifying with 3,838, 527 pins ahead of runner-up Rootstown (3,311). Hoover earned the fourth spot by 275 pins over Hubbard. Sara Mohr led the Vikings, making the all-tournament team with a 543 series.

TJ CROSBY MEMORIAL
Minerva’s girls captured the title during the TJ Crosby Memorial Tournament on Saturday at Legacy Lanes and Lounge in Coshocton.
The tournament was named in memory of former River View junior bowler and captain TJ Crosby, who died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in May 2022.
The Lions defeated Tuscarawas Central Catholic during the semifinals and then topped Dover to claim the title. Scores were not available.
In the boys division, the Lions were beaten in the semifinals by River View.
Minerva’s Jadynn Thompson and Kayla Henderhan went 1-2 individuals for the Lions, with Isabelle Genet and Shelby Worrell also gaining top-six finishes.
For the boys, Owen Frazier led the way with a fifth-place finish.
