Youth bowling: SCHSBC sets All-Star Match rosters; Federal, district teams announced; Mini-City at Park Centre

NORTH CANTON — The Stark County High School Bowling Conference’s annual All-Star Match is set for 11 a.m. March 23 at Eastbury Bowling Center.

Admission is free, with players participating from all schools in the conference, being divided into East vs. West. Coaches were selected based on teams’ division finishes.

The format is two regular individual games and six Baker System games.

Louisville is serving as host team for the matches.

Listed below are the rosters and coaches for each team:

BOYS

EAST TEAM: Coaches—Nichole Wells, Chad Wensel (Hoover). Players—Gannon Bing (AllianceI); Jaden Johnston (Carrollton); Riley Waggoner (GlenOak); Zac Abbott (Lake); Michael Emerick Jr. (Louisville); Jeremy Toole Jr. (Marlington); Lane Hawk (Minerva); Chase Wensel (Hoover); Ethan Hively (United).

ANNUAL BANQUET: The conference’s annual awards banquet is set for 1 p.m. April 7 at Raintree Golf and Event Center in Uniontown. Tickets are $22 and will be available at Heighway Awards and Apparel, located inside Park Centre Lanes, 7313 Whipple Ave,, North Canton during business hours Thursday and Friday, also at Park Centre during the Mini-City Tournament on Saturday and at the All-Star matches.

COACH-ATHLETE EVENT: Park Centre will be hosting the return of the conference’s coach-athlete tournament at noon April 21. All coaches (with a PAP on file with the conference) are eligible to bowl with an athlete on their own team. Board members also are eligible to bowl. The format is two regular games and six Baker System games on a house oil pattern. Entry is $20 per team. Contact commissioner J.C. Heighway for information.

ALL-FEDERAL TEAM ANNOUNCED

CANTON — North Canton Hoover senior Chad Wensel and Green junior Madison Perrine were the top honorees as the Federal League announced its 2023-24 all-league bowling teams recently.

GlenOak’s Jossett Petrick and Perry’s Joe Altimore III were named the boys and girls coaches of the year, respectively.

The meeting was held at Canton McKinley High School and hosted by McKinley athletics director Michael Schott.

ALL-DISTRICT TEAMS ANNOUNCED

The Ohio High School Bowling Coaches Association’s Northeast District recently announced its 2023-24 all-district bowling teams.

Teams must be members of the OHSBCA to be included on the rosters. Teams were picked in both Division I and Division II, with several area athletes selected.

Here are this season’s honorees:

MINI-CITY SET MARCH 16-17

NORTH CANTON — The Stark County USBC is holding a Mini City Youth Tournament on March 16 and 17 at Park Centre Lanes.

Entry fee is $15 per event,, with singles and doubles. Being held at 2 p.m. March 16, followed by the trios event at 2 p.m. March 17. Players can bowl in singles and doubles and/or trios. Entry fee for the trio is $45 per team, with a $2 all-events fee, with singles and doubles at $60 per pair of athletes.

JTBA KICKS OFF SEASON

COLUMBUS — The Junior Tournament Bowlers Association restarted its 2023-24 season Sunday with the Welcome Back Open at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace.

Bowlers bowled five qualifying games before the field were cut for two-game elimination match play until a winner was determined.

The event drew 169 entries in three divisions for both girls and boys.

Austin Burden (boys 18U), Emma Yoder (girls 18U), Landon Dreibelbis (boys 15U), Alyssa Bechtol (girls 15U) and Rylan Mills (12U) emerged with victories in their respective divisions.

The next JTBA event is the JTBA Columbus Open, set for 9 a.m. April 28 at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl in Columbus. Entry fee is $75 for members, $85 for non-members with a five-game qualifying round.

OHSB SINGLES EVENTS

The Ohio 7th to 12th Grade Singles Championships, sponsored by Ohio High School Bowling, are set for March 23 (seventh through 10th grade) and March 24 (11th and 12th grade) at HP Lanes in Columbus with a noon start both days.

Entry fee is $80 per tourney, and players do not have to be members of a high school team to participate.
