H.S. bowling: Barnesville tops OHSAA East District sectional

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Barnesville led throughout the competition, topping a 24-team field to capture the OHSAA Division II East District boy high school bowling sectional Tuesday at St. Clair Lanes.

The event was bowled in two shifts, which were decided by proximity to the center. Each team bowled three regular team games and six Baker System games.

The top six teams and top six individuals who were not members of qualifying teams advanced to the East District tournament, set for 10 a.m. Feb. 19 at Legacy Lanes in Coshocton.

Barnesville finished with 3,932 total pinfall, finishing 157 pins ahead of second-place Union Local (3,775).

Other qualifying teams included River View (3,678), Harrison Central (3,487(, Conotton Valley (3,473) and Indian Valley (3,407), which earned the final spot by just 10 pins over East Liverpool (3,397). The Braves shot 202 their final Baker game to secure the spot.

Barnesville senior Keegan Martin was the overall individual champion with a 660 series, followed by a pair of Union Local bowlers — freshman Levi Kutcher (638) and junior Jeff Bolon 618). There were just six 600 series thrown during the two-shift event.

The top individual qualifier was Maysville senior Conner Theisen, who finished fourth overall with 601. Other individual qualifiers included Necomerstown senior Jaxson Mayo (600), Minerva senior Owen Frazier (593), Buckeye Local sophomore Michael Kovalski (590), St. Clairsville junior Brenden Thorn (585) and Philo junior Charles Himes (585).

The Division II girls sectional was set for Wednesday at Boulevard Lanes in Dover.
