Tourney report: College Bowl Tournaments sets 50-50 doubles this week

CANTON — The College Bowl Tournament series will be holding its second event of the season, a under 50-over 50 doubles tourney, at 10 a.m. Oct. 19 at AMF Hall of Fame Lanes.

Teams may consist of one bowler under age 50 and one bowler age 50 and older or two bowlers ages 50 and older.

Bowlers will roll four qualifying games before the field is cut to the top four teams for single-game match play rounds to determine a champion.

Entry fee is $130 per team.

PBA REGIONAL EVENTS

Legacy Lanes in Coshocton will be hosting the PBA50 Legacy Lanes Central Open on Oct. 19 and 20.

The tourney will open with an eight-game qualifier beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday before the field is cut to the top 16 for match play rounds at 9 a.m. Sunday, based on 48 entries.

The weekend will kick off with a pro-am set for 6:30 p.m. Friday. Cost is $200 for a four-person team, with the event including 10 Baker System games bowled with different professionals. This is a scratch event.

JACKSON EVENT: Fairport Harbor right-hander Casey Cohagen when 5-1 in match play and defeated Ryan Speer 224-220 in the title match to capture Sunday’s PBA JAX-60 Central Open in Jackson, Mich. Cohagen earned the final cut spot for the top 12 following eight qualifying games with 1,664 total pinfall, just 12 pins ahead of Cory Hersha. Chadler Stevens of Archbold was the qualifying leader with 1,839, followed by Parma’s Patrick Dombrowski (1,827). Speer topped Dombrowski 235-177 and Cohagen stopped Marcus Oien 236-142 during the semifinals. Doylestown’s Joe Bailey finished eight overall. See final standings below:

BLUFFTON EVENT: At the PBA Family Ford of Bluffton/Yerggy’s BBQ/EZ Bowl Central Open in Bluffton, Ind., Kyle Troup went 3-0 in the stepladder finals to claim the title, with EJ Tackett taking second. Troup stopped Tackett 209-175 in the title match. Troup ran the ladder, stopping Chandler Stevens 206-183 and David Northouse 194=191 en route to the win. Tackett topped the 15 remaining players in the Advancers Round with 3,539 over 16 games (221.9 average). Troup earned the No. 4 seed by just 27 pins over Zeke Bayt. Northouse was the qualifying leader, averaging 231.13 for eight games. This event was contested with string pins. See results below:

KETTERING 50 EVENT: Troy Stus defeated Tom Adcock 211-183 in the final position round match to claim the overall title in the PBA50 RPI Central Open at Poelking Woodman Lanes in Kettering recently. Stus trailed Adcock by 36 pins heading into the final match and ended up winning with 4,393 total pinfall to Adcock’s 4,391. Adcock was the qualifying leader with 1,753 for eight games, just 20 pins ahead of Mark Sullivan.Adcock compiled a 5-3 match-play mark. Michael Haggitt had the top match-play mark among the final eight at 7-1. See results below:

OHIO MATCHPLAY TOURNAMENTS: Dave Davison defeated Charley Lupkica III 208-198 in the title match to claim his third victory in the Ohio Matchplay Tournaments series during the Inaugural Early Fall Classic at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl in Columbus. The event drew 23 bowlers. The next OMT event of tge Park Lanes Challenge, oeriginally set for Oct. 20 at Park Lanes in Heath, has been canceled due to a lack of interest. HILES TOURNAMENTS: The team of Adam Barta, Brian Waliczek, Anthony Pepe, Jean Perez and Ronnie Sparks captured the fourth annual Baker Baker Team Championships at Spins Bowl Pittsburgh. The next HBT event is the Baker Doubles set for Nov. 9 at Spins Bowl Pittsburgh. Entry fee is $200 per team and the field is limited to 60 teams. ELIMINATOR TOURNAMENT: Promotor Jody Boyd will be holding a $2,000 Eliminator Tournament at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 16 at HP Lanes in Columbus. Entry fee will be $100, with bowlers bowling five qualifying Ames before the field is cut to the top 24 based on 120 entries. The top eight will receive byes in the second round, with seeds 9 through 24 bowling one game with the top eight moving on after one game. The remaining 16 then will bowl one game to determine the top eight, and subsequent one-game cuts will be made until two remain to bowl for the title. First place will be worth $2,000.
