GARRETTSVILLE — Boardman High School’s boys were No. 1 following qualifying and went on to top Hubbard in the title match of the G-Men Classic bowling tournament Saturday at SkyLane Bowling.

The Spartans finished qualifying with 4,414 total pinfall and shot the three highest team games — all over 1,100 — during the round at the wood-lane center.

The format was three regular games followed by five Baker System games for the 15-team field, with the field then being cut to the top four for best-of-three Baker match play by seed.

Austintown Fitch and Hubbard tied for the final qualifying spot with 3,800, with the Eagles gaining the No. 3 seed following a two-frame rolloff. Ravenna missed the cut by just six pins, with Jackson finishing sixth with 3,705.

Hubbard had games of 236 and 205 during its final two Baker games to reach the cut.

The Spartans faced Fitch in the semifinals and went three games for a 2-1 win, taking Game 3 213-162.

They then stopped Hubbard in two games, 188-171 and 206-128, for the title. The Eagles advanced with a 2-0 win over Twinsburg.

Boardman’s Donny Bagdassarian turned in the high series with a 793, including 279 in Game 3. Austin Rule also added 714 and Ben Hildebrand 671 for the Spartans.

See qualifying results below. Individual results were not available.
